It was the Saturday of vacation week, and with my other pass blacked out, it was the perfect chance to ski on the Indy. Magic is usually about 90 min away for me, but due to a snowy morning and some slow vehicles in front of me for most of the way, it turned to nearly 2 hours. Still, I left my house early and got to the mountain near 845. I got a parking spot in the first lot, just a 2 min walk to the lodge - a big win for a vacation weekend!
Didn't wait very long to get my RFID card, booted up, and then headed right for the red chairs. There were no lines for a little less than an hour, so I cranked out 3 runs. There had been just enough new snow to make conditions quite good.
As expected, some lines did develop mid-morning and lasted until mid-afternoon when I left, at times up to 15 min or so. But, everybody was polite - the line was being well managed by staff, everyone was in a good mood, no stress waiting. Magic's vibe is terrific and I always enjoy skiing here.
I mixed it up with runs on the Green, when the Red line was getting long.
I was skiing solo, but had some terrific conversations with a lot of other solo riders on the chairlift. Another testament to the type of skiers who ski at Magic - they actually are happy to talk on the lifts.
The east side was mostly open with groomed snow to start, and some partially ungroomed trails too like Up Your Sleeve, though the groomers had made a few passes down most runs. Vertigo was particularly good on the groomed side.
The state was inspecting the Black Quad so got to see it in action a few times, though no passengers yet.
I did not head over to the West Side as it looked a little rough over there.
I managed to get in 17 miles, and 16,800' of vertical, and 14 runs. A very worthwhile day and a good choice for the holiday weekend.
I'm thrilled that our Snowjournal/NELSAP donation for the red chair all those years ago, #98, is still on the donation board! I also noted that quite a few people associated with our sites in the past and/or present are on there - #13 David DeMatteis, #44 Chris Lundquist, #46 Matthew Lillard, #47 In Memory of Roger Leo (Roger47), #64 Jonathan Regan, #85 chairlift.org, Bullwheel- Guy Doucette. How cool is it that we have a chairlift that is tied to so many of us? Did I miss anyone?
I saw these stickers around...I have not heard of the "Triad" description before.
