I went to Spring Mountain (Pennsylvania: parenthetical added by JLS) after work yesterday. More for the nostalgia than the skiing as that is where I caught the skiing bug many years ago. The 60+ ticket is $25.00 anytime on weekdays.
I had heard that they had bought one of the All Weather snowmaking systems but this was the first time that I saw it and it was actually running. It was 45 degrees when I got there and it was blowing out some "snow" from what looked like two PVC pipes. It didn't appear to be much volume coming out and I think it would take a long time to cover even a small slope. I think is essentially an sno cone maker inside that blows the shavings out onto the slope.
Couldn't load a video but you can see the snow coming out of the PVC pipes. It's actually more than it appears to be in the photo with the white background.
The lift on the west side was ski on or a chair wait. When I went to leave around 7:00 PM there were a lot of kids in well organized lessons on the main slope in front of the lodge. It's good to see them doing well.
A few more photos:
The first chairlift that I ever rode. A Hall installed 1966. Last time I rode it a few years ago it still had the chairs with the wooden slats.
