Quarry Road Trails 2023-2024 Season

Quarry Road has been open for a little over a week now, and they've expanded to about 2 km of terrain, including the Stadium area, Pine Tree Loop, and Hero's Hill. All trails were tracked and freshly groomed with excellent coverage. The snow was a bit soft today, due to the warm temperatures and sun, but it didn't get too mushy.

Saturday, December 23

Quarry Road now has 2.5 km of terrain open, most with a nice new surface of man-made snow. Upper Colby Sprint and Lower South Koons have whales on them, but are not yet pushed out. It was fun to go exploring on these trails, which did have snow cover the entire way.

Monday, January 8

Quarry Road is fully open after the storm (Hawthorn & Roundabout are still closed due to storm damage.)! The trails with natural snow have thin cover, but are still in pretty good shape. Middle Trail & River Trail were rolled this morning, and most of the other open natural snow trails were rolled during the storm yesterday. The trails that are open with a snowmaking base are well groomed and have a set track. With sunny skies and temperatures in the 20s, today was a perfect day to enjoy the snow before Wednesday's mixed precipitation event.

The downhill slope is fully covered with a man-made snow base and is open for the season. The only difference in the setup for this season is lights for night skiing; the rope has not yet been extended.

It looks like they have cleared the downhill ski slope much higher up. I wonder if they will be running the rope tow higher this year. I can't seem to find any other recent information about the expansion.

Saturday, January 25

Today was free ski day, and it was perfect weather for it! Both the Nordic and alpine terrain was in great shape where snow had been made. It was firm, grippy, and fast. A few cross country trails were open on natural snow, and while some sections were quite good, others had parts that needed to be sidestepped due to lack of snow. I Nordic skied in the morning and then switched over to alpine for about an hour after lunch. It was great to see so many people out enjoying the snow!

Not that I've seen. Quarry Road did run out of wickets yesterday, so they switched over to some odd rubbery plastic loop thing.
