Gore Mountain 2022-2023 Season

Starting up the Gore thread for this year.

I have my Ski 3 Season Pass again this year, and one of the benefits is unlimited summer/fall access. We went to Gore on the 02nd and rode up the Gondola, then hiked to the summit. From the gondola and back, round trip it's 2.6 miles and 650' of elevation gain (several ups and downs). A few steep but brief sections on Cloud but nothing major at all.

Weather was mostly sunny, cool (mid 50s base-mid 40s summit) and quite windy on top. But a true fall bluebird day!

Foliage was near peak as well. It was very "blah" and "meh" enroute but we were shocked how nice it was on the mountain. Our local foliage will be very muted this year due to the infestation of caterpillars which ravaged just about every hillside.

Followed it up with a late German lunch at Beck's Tavern.

Gore's making some improvements this year - a new intermediate trail off Burnt Ridge, and new snowmaking on several trails.

Got any more details on the new trail (where on Burnt) and what trails are getting snowmaking improvements?

Very cool. Seems like a good trail to get over to the Ski Bowl far easier.

thanks for posting. Gore is a fantastic ski area, definitely one of my favorites.

looking at that update....Pipeline below the bridge needs some work. It's a narrow, one-lane funnel of ice and novices struggle with it. right now it doesn't see much use, so its functional, but if it gets too many more people it's going to be a trouble spot

The Burnt Ridge HSQ was installed in 2008. It only took 14 years to finally add this trail known as The Backwoods.

I haven't gotten to Gore yet but just curious if the new trail cut through existing glades?

From their website:
This 60’ wide intermediate-rated trail with grooming and snowmaking capabilities will enter near the top of the Burnt Ridge Quad and run alongside the Barkeater Glades, ending just uphill of the Roaring Brook Bridge at the bottom of The Pipeline, making your adventure to Little Gore Mountain and the Ski Bowl more direct and easily accessible!

The amount of trail cutting through the glad was very minimum, from what I've heard. It parallels portions of the Barkeater Glades.

That is great to hear! Hopefully I can make it up there this year. Just realized I can get 50% off mid week thanks to my Wachusett pass.

We're thinking about going to Gore this year for NH school vacation. What lifts are typically closed midweek? Is there night skiing at the skibowl midweek? Any recommendations for great places for dinner in town would also be warmly welcomed.

One odd question: The fake chairlift over the access road... is there a history to it, like, was there once a lift from the paring lot, or was it purpose built as decoration?

Hi Snowmaster,

Most lifts are open during the week. The Ski Bowl, however, is not (something I wish I would change). It has been open on some sporadic Fridays, but I wouldn't count on it. Sometimes Burnt Ridge can be closed for racing if only Echo was open. The later in the midweek you go, the more likely all main mountain lifts are open. They do have night skiing at the Ski Bowl though midweek (check their schedule), but the skiing is pretty basic there, unless everybody is using the terrain park. Vertical at night is only 140'.

Dinner - Beck's Tavern is nice and close to the mountain, good German food. We are also partial to Barvino - https://www.barvino.co/ - which has delicious food.

The fake chairlift is just for decoration. I believe it is from either the old top section of the High Peaks Double when it was shortened, or from pieces of the Straight Brook Double. Both were similar Riblets.

Trappers Tavern Bar/Restaurant has good food.
Bar Vino has great food (and a damn good Lobster Roll)

I think once ORDA puts that new lodge in and extends the summit quad at the ski bowl. Then I think operations will most likely become more in line with the rest of the mountain.

ANy real prospects of housing around the Bowl? Lack of lodging has always been an issue for Gore/NCreek, and I recall some writeup of development around the north side of the Snowbowl

Don't expect anything like the Mt Washington Valley or Lincoln for apres-ski or alternative activities for non-ski days. There is some nordie stuff at the Bowl (but I dont know midweek) and Garnet Hill is open every day, and you could take a ride up to Lake Placid. You won't have any traffic to speak of; after Labor Day they roll up the sidewalks in North Creek and the town goes down at sunset.

The skiing is not an issue there, Gore is fantastic and enough to keep you interested for days, and there will be plenty open during New england school vacation week. Even if the ski bowl is not open

Outlets in Queensbury are on par with MWV...but there's sales tax :D

Burnt Ridge usually opens mid-January and sometimes later in a bad snow year. Maybe that will change with the new trail, but I doubt it. Last year Burnt Ridge, the interconnect, the North Quad, and Sunway quad were closed on many Mondays and Tuesdays. The Ski Bowl seems to be open only on weekends and Holidays and some Fridays. Choose your days wisely when you book a trip to Gore.

Sorry wasn't thinking about shopping. Yes, and the Tops Market in town can be bumping! At least during the summer, on weekends. I saw two registers open at the same time once.

Another suggestion - stay at Great Escape Lodge and indoor water park in Queensbury. Yes, a 30-35 min drive to Mtn - but more to do.

Thank you all for the help. Could you give me some idea what kind of curve the terrain is graded on? Should we expect blues to be like King's Landing steep or pretty gentle? I see Sunway and Pete Gay used to be blue along with virtually the entire mountain. Are they suitable for beginners with some endurance, or they were stretching it to downgrade the rating?

The place still seems so oddly shaped to me without lower Tannery. I wonder waht made them close it down?

On NH school vacation week, we're used to there being nothing at all to do. All they money is spent the week before. Tubing is closed midweek most places, and kids had better wear themselves out skiing and in the pool when we book at a place with one. Otherwise, bring a board game and a good book, I guess. Just one kid left in our group, but still some adults who are barely progressing into easier blues.
