A letter from the GM:

Hi everyone, my name is Brandon Swartz and I am the new General Manager here at Attitash Mountain Resort. I first off want to thank the community and the team here at the resort for welcoming me with open arms. It has been an amazing first 60 days in my role, and I have experienced firsthand the amazing level of dedication and passion that everyone has for this resort. I very much look forward to settling down and raising my family here in the Mount Washington Valley.

I also wanted to take the time to thank everyone who joined us on the slopes this season! It was great to see so many of you have a great time on the mountain – but I also recognize that we also saw our fair share of challenges this year. We have listened to your feedback, and we know that you’re all really here for amazing skiing and riding experience– which is why this summer, we’re going to focus our efforts on pre-emptively maintaining our mountain infrastructure to minimize any disruptions or impacts during the winter season. We will not be offering public attractions or activities this summer. Instead, we are going to focus on:

Supporting the construction of our new lift, the Progression Quad, returning access to our amazing beginner terrain.

Replacing the necessary electrical systems to bring the Kachina Triple back online next season.

Enable our maintenance teams to focus on a dive deep into all of our lifts to make repairs large and small to improve reliability moving forward.

Building a more consistent and out-front communication strategy including more regular videos this summer providing updates on the progress of our projects.

Re-evaluating and reimagining our snowmaking plans to ensure that we can provide an amazing experience for all experience levels as we ramp up our winter season.

Exploring new opportunities to hire the necessary staff by partnering with local seasonal businesses and schools while leveraging our newly announced minimum wage.

Continuing to build strong relationships and partnerships with our community stakeholders.

Attitash as far as I know has had zero summer ops since purchased by Vail. I drive by multiple times in the summer and it's been dead.

It’s sad. Used to have an hour long lift line for the alpine slides. Tons of families using the water slides. Mountain biking was huge there too, some of the best trails in the Northeast for DH.

Guessing what some of the other issue is, is that what limited staff for ops that they still have, have been hired by Dopp for the Summer as part of the lift installation crew, so the already limited pool of folks who truly could do the day to day maintenance on the lifts and attractions that are needed for Summer ops, above and beyond the basic folks to sell tickets and help load/unload lifts and operate the water slides, food and beverage, etc, just aren't there

I’m somewhat bummed because I have a place right down the road but we had a lot of fun at Cranmore and Loon last summer so they’ll get our business

Summer is where its at in the area. I believe back in the 70's Attitash was in trouble an went out on a limb and installed an alpine slide with a loan. They ended up paying off the loan and made money in one summer.

Yet again, it seems to be a Vail-specific problem. Just down the road, Cranmore will be offering numerous summer activities all while also constructing a new lodge, new hotel, and completing a major overhaul of their high speed quad.

Wildcat will be putting the Gondola cabins on the haul rope for Summer Ops starting Memorial Day Weekend per a post that just went up on their social media platforms

Where do you see that? The post I'm seeing says they will be offering chairlift rides starting at the end of June, although the post shows a picture of a gondola.

I’m sorry … this is a pretty condescending email. All of that other than the first point re Progression Quad should be in every summer’s SOPs and not a “oh no we effed off 3 years in a row now” hastily planning of how to run a mountain.

Maybe they're making a Changeola at Wildcat - A mix of Cabins and chairs all running at the same time on the line. With 'burst' loading (slow down for 5 chairs or gondola's and then accelerate for a while) you could have a unique experience.

They must have lost all the critical staff at Attitash, shutting down the Mountain Coaster and the Zip Lines is not without cost. Peak normally bought those type of attractions on a finance plan and paid them off over 3-4 years. There may still be installments outstanding.

What's the story on the summit triple, there was some noise about replacing it with a HSQ earlier in the season, now they are back to fixing it. Personally I thought that a fast (reliable) triple (with loader) might have speeded the line & ride without overloading the classic trails, much like Sunday River did when it's triple fell down a few years ago.

I fully agree. I don’t understand how the Vail apologist keep on saying they are doing such a great job. Come to NH, see how poorly the ski areas have been run, no summer ops 3 years now. Alpine slides will probably never come back now. Place looks like an abandoned ghost town.

I love their MTB trails, there is a HUGE growing demand for it. It’s a shame they don’t want to capitalize on that anymore.

I feel bad for MattyB across from Attitash, his restaurant used to be BUMPING year round, now it is probably a ghost town in the summer too.,, who would want to drive up to Bartlett for nothing?

Please find me one quote of anyone saying Attitash did a "great job".

You'd think the coaster/slide and mountain biking at Attitash is the only attraction in MW Valley aea. Storyland is 4.1 miles from MattyB's. There are 3200 people in Bartlett. Traffic will still pass by on 302. If it's good, they'll stop. I will make a point to give it a try.

The GM said thank you for welcoming me and my family. I enjoyed interacting with everyone, and for the ones that didn't have a good time we're trying to fix that. We won't be open this summer and here's a list of things we're fixing. And he thanked folks for their patience.

What part of that was condescending?

I get it. Things ain't like they used to be. The pandemic sucked. If you're reading this you're on the right side of the grass though. Things will get better.

Ted: I think that the quoted piece of writing from the GM that opened this thread was so poorly written that it could easily be interpreted as condescension.

Too many examples of poor writing in it to detail in this thread, but let's start with the use of the word "amazing" no less than 5-times!

Why don't we just him by what he gets done and what the product is this winter. The dude's barely been there two months.
