Well I might beg to differ, might not. Artistically it's beautiful of course -- but as a ski trail map? The lake takes up as much room as the mountain! I suppose it's because they want to cover the nordie trails? So I guess that's part of being a ski trail map, but it minimizes the hill. Not thoroughly impressed by the functionality of this one. Certainly a beautiful piece of art!!
Combination alpine/nordie map that comes to mind, not nearly as "beautiful" but excellent on functional and design is Titcomb in central Maine, and on their website they have a nice close up that focuses just on the alpine section. Also has topo lines, which is great. And the nordie has an elevation profile. Plus whoever did the map understands graphic design. It's very nice all around.
I get what you're saying about the King Pine map, but I can see why they did it because they wanted to include both Alpine and Nordic trails.
The Titcomb map is quite functional and also somewhat visually appealing. It looks much better than their old map:
