Surface Lift Saturday- Christmas Eve at Labrador Mt!!

So I’m in Syracuse, NY with my sons visiting my parents for the Christmas holidays and my sons wanted to ski. Who am I to say no to such wisdom???

Anyways, all the local hills had action so off to Labrador we went! Besides, you cannot beat $10 all day lift tickets!!!

Alas I did not ski: my left ankle is quite sore and I am a bit too large to comfortably ski at the present, though I work out almost daily.

That being said, I present Labrador Mt: the ski area I first learned to ski at waaaay back in 1976!

There is a Labrayurt on my mountain. This is new.

I insisted my sons give the rope tow a quick go before tackling the runs off the chairs. I wanted to make sure they can kid safely stop and turn.

This is the base of the Badger chair: a Hall double chairlift installed new in the early 70s. It’s nearly 4,000 ft in length.

I enjoyed Labrador when I skied there at night several years ago…just enough variety for an evening. Great pics!

Lastly, here is the base of the Borvig triple, installed in 1985, and the last remaining Hall t-bar at Labrador. These two lifts are at the base of the Jacopie trail. There’s not enough snow or traffic to merit operating the t-bar today.

The t typically runs on a busy weekend with quality snow covers.

Yes.  Badger Lift is almost 4000 feet long.  I was on Ski Patrol at Lab during high school and college.  I can attest to many a cold night riding that double with a toboggan lying across my lap!  Brrrrrr….

…and the Labrayurt’s been there for some time.  I last skied Lab in 2010.  They have a great military discount, but this is before the Wilson’s sold to Song so I don’t know if that’s true anymore.

I love this ski area!  So many hours on the Jacopie Triple…notice it’s a Borvig but doesn’t have hanging sheaves?  Lab’s lifts are practically in NY 91!  Highly recommend a stop here to anyone!

Remember when there was trees on the lower part of Minipi Rapids and a big tree at the top of Jacopie?

I noticed that this particular Borvig doesn’t have the classic hanging sheaves when it was installed. That may have been a later design feature. Not sure what you mean by NY 91. Wait: never mind - you meant Route 91, the road. Yeah. The lower bullwheels are right there at the edge of the street.

Def remember the trees on Minipi Rapids. I believe that was before the trail was merged into Red Wine. Forgot all about the big tree at the top of Jacopie. As I recall it was just before the steep drop into the mogul field.

Did you ever ride the old Razorback t-bar? I last rode it in 1982. It sat idle for many years before finally being dismantled around 1999 or so.
