Sugarbush Receiving Gondola Cabins

Sugarbush Ski Resort is receiving gondola cabins. Sugarloaf Ski Resort has announced that it is gifting 28 gondola cabins to Sugarbush. Sugarloaf had received the former Gondola I cabins from sister resort Big Sky, MT. They were never used and simply sat for several years. Sugarbush will use the cabins on their 11,000 Slide Brook Express. The cabins could be added to the haul rope to supplement the existing 102 detachable quad carriers. However, it is more likely that they will replace the existing chairs using the existing detachable grips. In this way, weight on the haul rope will remain similar. More importantly, there will be no issues in trying to adapt older grips to a newer detachable system. Permitting was just granted for this configuration. Management says this work will be completed while replacement of the Heaven’s Gate lift is conducted. There will be a pause in the higher elevation on that project. During that period, some staff will be free to complete the Slide Brook work. All work is expected to be completed for the 2024-25 season.

I thought about adding, "One cabin has been tested for hang and balance bolted to the current grip system. All that was needed were different bolts and an additional stabilizing rod." But I ran out of time.

Ironically this (1/3 carriers becoming cabins) is roughly what I proposed to make Slidebrook a viable lift again.

The funny thing about all these April Fools jokes is that they are actually somewhat decent ideas, like Waterville installing magic carpets to take people from their numerous, steep parking lots to the lodge, NYC allowing for elevated dining platforms on all the scaffolding, electric skis that go uphill (Mad River), etc.

Doesn't solve the 'not enough snow under the line for emergency vehicles' as well as staffing issues. That's the main reason it rarely runs. Sometimes it is too cold but that's been rare the past few years.

I thought I read, the emergency vehicle was a Sugarbush, not state rule/law. Is that true? Besides, there are plenty wheeled (or tracked) vehicles that go better w/o snow!

Don't know, but it's what they say keeps them from opening every year until they can run snowmobiles back there in case of evac.

I cannot believe WV would even make that joke. That just calls attention to one of the area's biggest flaws. Next thing you know, they will be be making April 1 posts about allowing bags back in the lodge...

Sure it does, to a certain extent. The snow cover is a Bush enacted policy and if the guests are in cabins out of the elements the timetable for evacuation changes substantially. The lift rain daily in the ASC era save the coldest of days.

Ok not surprised. They did have a couple signs last time I was there, something to the effect of: Sorry no parking lot shuttles today.
