I finally talked with the legislative aid to Senator Brian Joyce. He didn't have good news. He said that language to include a long term operating permit for the Blue Hills Ski area was not included in the 2007 budget. Something about the Speaker not wanting to make policy by using outside sections in the budget. He said the Reps and Sens from the area are on the same page as the DRC as to the need for a long term permit to make long term improvements possible. Also said they will submit the bill again next session. Next spring we will have to swamp the State House with support. 'Til next time.

So does this mean Raggeed still has Blue Hills for this season?
Ponkapoag Golf Course article - This is right down the street from Blue Hills - perhaps Sen. Brian Joyce should write a Patriot Ledger article for the ski area!
The last e-mail I received from the patrol drector indicated that the Endriunas' would be running the area again this season under an operating permit and that there was a new director of guest services who came from Haystack.
__________
"Don't piss off the locals, Don't make work for the patrol"
the Endriunas' would be running the area again this season

At the end of last season, our worst fear was that the Blue Hills would not open for 2006-7. While the status quo isn't the best news, it isn't the worst either!
I just noticed that the 06/07 season ticket form has been posted up on Blue Hills' website (which, depressingly, perfectly captures the spartan charm and lack of updating of the ski area itself...). Here's hoping for a good natural snow year for the metro Boston area, to help Blue Hills (and lots of other areas too) find success and happy skiers!
