Can some one please tell me why anyone in the US needs an H2?
If you do have a reason why someone needs one, have you seen someone using it for that reason?
If your reason is like the last H2 commercial that I saw; that you need one so the kids at school will not beat up your kid because you dropped him off at school in the H2, you would have been better off spending the $60K on therapy for yourself than on the H2! Plus, in reality, after you spend the $60K, they'll still beat up your kid!
I haven't seen one H2 going on a safari.
I think that a new H2 should come with a 2 year tour of duty in Iraq. Because that is what the troops in Iraq are really fighting for, so you can still drive a gas guzzling behemouth, and the oil companies can keep raking in the profits!
Disagree? What countries were the 9/11 hijackers from? From what industry did the money that financed them come from?
You need four wheel drive? Take a look at a ten year old Ford Explorer, the best selling SUV, and a new one. Which is bigger?
The marketing people figured out a long time ago that it wasn't about NEEDS, it was about WANTS. And the marketing people said, "Make them bigger and tint the windows." And we bought them and financed the "terrorist". But more importantly, we increased the DEMAND (enriching the oil companies and our enemies at the same time.)
Our new energy policy does nothing to decrease DEMAND. Nor does it invest in new alternatives. It gives big tax breaks to the oil companies who are making record profits. If it takes $6.00/ gal. for the US to wake up, I hope it goes to $10.00/ gal. to really wake them up.
Because that is not the only thing that we need to be waken up about. We have an administration that ignores science. We have a president who promotes "creationism" and says "climate change" , not global warming is not happening. While China is producing scientist and engineers, we're producing lawyers.
Which states have the lowest graduation rates? Which states have the lowest scores on standardized test? Which states have the highest teen pregnancy rates? Which states are the leaders of our country from? If you have kids in school, thank God that you are living in New England and not in the Red states.
While this country is racing to the bottom, the rest of the world is racing to the top.
Gas prices? That's the least of out worries.

Woah, sounds like a Michael Moore movie
The truth isn't always pleasant to swallow. Worst President in US history IMHO.
As with most issues, this one is a matter of degree. There is a fine line between needing something and wanting something. I have an SUV because I "need" it to tow a boat.
Do I "need" to own a boat? Of course not, I "want" to. So in reality I don't "need" an SUV. Just like none of us on these boards "needs" to ski. We can all just regress and do nothing but live in tents off the land.
Ok, that's a little harsh but you get my point?
While I am no fan of H2's, lets not forget that their owners are pumping alot of money into the local economy wherever they go (ie, ski resorts)
As for this country headed for the gutter? That's nonsense. It's still the best country on earth and I wouldn't move from it no matter who was president.
Only time will tell if "W" is the worst president in history. I voted for him and while he hasn't been perfect, no president ever is. Take away the two major events during his term that were beyond his control and what would people say about him?.... wow, have we ever gotten off the point!

Hmmmmm. Two major events ....that were beyond his control? Well, there was the 9/11 attack. He stood strong. If it wasn't for 9/11, he would not have had a chance at a second term.
There were three other tragedies during his presidency. There was the Iraq war and the tax giveaways to the rich. he had control over these.
And there was Hurricane Katrina. He hasn't stood stong on this event, yet
i can't even imagine what would happen if i was ever in an accident with one of those bohemoths.
you'd probably die or be permanently, horribly disabled. their ad campaign says "like nothing else"... i can look in a toilet and see a similarity, but i wouldn't want to drive that either.

H2 pumping money in the local economy. It's not because you have more money that you can trash the environment. No individual should have a Hummer, period. It's a selfish toy... unless your in a war zone.
The US represents only a fraction of the world population (5%), however it contributes more than 25% of the World green house gases. Everywhere else on this planet global warming is a fact, only the US administration questions the science. Kyoto wasn't ratified by the US, Bush says that he will not do anything that will jeopardise the US economy. Did Katrina affect the economy? Gases prices, insurance costs, lives lost, etc. etc.
If the Chinese starts consuming as much energy and polluting as much as us North American on a per capita basis (I'm including my country also), we're DEAD!!! How much damage can China due just with half of our consuming habits when it represents 20% of the World population? I hope this never happens.
If this Hummer selfishness, SUV selfishness, car-society selfishness continues, our kids/grandkids can forget about skiing. Is that good for the economy? Some people don't seem concern when one of the most stable glacier in Greenland loses 5km in 4 years!!! Water level and water temperature increasing...which should concern population in the Gulf states (as we unfortunately saw), not only remote pacific island nation that will dissapear.
I'm I being a scaremunger? A Michael Moore? Read this quote from National Geographic (OCTOBER 2004):
It was a broiling August afternoon in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Big Easy, the City That Care Forgot. Those who ventured outside moved as if they were swimming in tupelo honey. Those inside paid silent homage to the man who invented air-conditioning as they watched TV "storm teams" warn of a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. Nothing surprising there: Hurricanes in August are as much a part of life in this town as hangovers on Ash Wednesday.
But the next day the storm gathered steam and drew a bead on the city. As the whirling maelstrom approached the coast, more than a million people evacuated to higher ground. Some 200,000 remained, however—the car-less, the homeless, the aged and infirm, and those die-hard New Orleanians who look for any excuse to throw a party.
The storm hit Breton Sound with the fury of a nuclear warhead, pushing a deadly storm surge into Lake Pontchartrain. The water crept to the top of the massive berm that holds back the lake and then spilled over. Nearly 80 percent of New Orleans lies below sea level—more than eight feet below in places—so the water poured in. A liquid brown wall washed over the brick ranch homes of Gentilly, over the clapboard houses of the Ninth Ward, over the white-columned porches of the Garden District, until it raced through the bars and strip joints on Bourbon Street like the pale rider of the Apocalypse. As it reached 25 feet (eight meters) over parts of the city, people climbed onto roofs to escape it.
Thousands drowned in the murky brew that was soon contaminated by sewage and industrial waste. Thousands more who survived the flood later perished from dehydration and disease as they waited to be rescued. It took two months to pump the city dry, and by then the Big Easy was buried under a blanket of putrid sediment, a million people were homeless, and 50,000 were dead. It was the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States.
When did this calamity happen? It hasn't—yet. But the doomsday scenario is not far-fetched. The Federal Emergency Management Agency lists a hurricane strike on New Orleans as one of the most dire threats to the nation, up there with a large earthquake in California or a terrorist attack on New York City. Even the Red Cross no longer opens hurricane shelters in the city, claiming the risk to its workers is too great.
The shortsightness of this US Administration is amazing. This administration ignores World Opinion and Wisedom, ignores treaties and judgements against them. Is this country a good world citizen, I don't think so. Then the US wonders why so many people are anti-American. No it's not because it #1. Only in the US is this not news. I'm sad when I hear George Bush said that no one knew that the levee would give way, this is perfect example of what I'm saying.
I second Treebeard "Right On" for the previous rant.
The more foreign oil we use, the more we empower the bad guys like Chavez and Zarqawi. It is just fundamental.
Okay, this is my last non-skiing post.
I agree that Zarqawi is a bad guy, but he doesn't have any oil and would love to see the Saudi dictatorship (yes, it's not a democracy) fall.
Chavez is a bad guy? Although he doesn't like the US, he didn't start any hostilities against the US. The US Adminstration was just too happy to see him apparently overtrown, oops, it didn't successed. This person was democrately elected (not fixed election) and represents the Venezualuan people. Now we have people like Robertson calling for him to be killed. This sounds like Chile in the early 1970 will the Coup of the elected socialist government with a Pro-US Pinochet dictatorship.
[quote]I think that a new H2 should come with a 2 year tour of duty in Iraq. Because that is what the troops in Iraq are really fighting for.
You cant criticise the soldiers for the war. My cousin is a Marine stationed in Iraq and he didnt join the Marines because of political views but to serve his country, you can dislike the war but dont blame it on the troops, they are just doing there jobs and I respect them for going out there. you are sitting there at your desk complaining and blaming other people but I dont see you out there taking any action.
So it's the Bush Administrations fault that a hurricane flooded New Orleans and thousands of square miles around the Mississippi?
I need to give a plug to a local business for those of you who come to ski at Cannon or Loon Mountain this winter. Wilson's Mobil in North Woodstock has kept their prices 20-30 cents cheaper on all types of octane than the other stations. The other places have practically THE SAME PRICES, and they are supplied by the same distributer. They could've taken advantage of the Labor Day crowds, but they didn't.
So.... I at least touched on the subject!
__________
Screw My Car, My Body Climbed Mount Washington!
As I said in an earlier post, more local refineries. That way less, susceptible to disruptions, less expense for transportation and more local responsibility. (But no one wants one in their town).
As many stated we need to modifiy what we drive and how we use autos. Visit Europe and see what most people drive. Try and take a bike on a bus or train in most U.S. towns.
In our town they (mostly mommies) finally passed a law that all kids K-12 got a school bus no matter how far they lived from the school. Under the guise of not having to cross main roads with crossing guards on duty (crazy). I watched in amazement as one mom sat on the corner blocking everyones view in her SUV. When the school bus arrived she strapped her kid in the back seat like he was about to depart on a space shuttle mission, made a u turn, drove 4 houses down the block and pulled in her driveway. NO LIE.
Until we change these and lots of other abuses we are all in trouble.
On the bright side, it may be good for the bus -group travel business this winter.
So if I read all these posts correctly, the Bush administration has caused people to purchase Hummers?
I knew it! I knew there was some explanation as to why a moderately intelligent person in a free country would buy one of those monstrosities! It's Bush's fault!!
psst....how'd he do it? Are his pedantic, fumbling speeches a cover for some mass hypnotic power over self-absorbed Americans with six figure incomes?
Incidentally, the Northway and NY Thruway were as packed as ever yesterday, SUVs and motor homes towing boats, trailers, campers towing jeeps... bombing along at 75 to 80, boat trailers twitching all over the highway, the usual madness. (More of Bush's chicanery?)
$4 a gallon won't keep those folks from hitting the slopes this year.

Firstly, the US administration is here to serve the best interests of the United States, not France or Germany or Russia. Any one of those example countries would love to see the US fall so long as it didn't compromise their own security or economy.
George Bush not knowing the levee would give way? Why don't you ask Clinton and HW Bush. They too thought it would hold. It was supposed to hold against a catagory 3. The storm that hit New Orleans was a catagory 3.
Evacuations...the state and the city are much more to blame for that (how about that photo of the massive school bus lot flooded...couldn't they have transported people in those?)
Blaming Bush for this hurricane is almost as fair as blaming him for a bad snow year.
A few things...
Katrina hit the coast as a level 4, just downgraded from level 5. I don't think anyone is blaming Bush for the Hurricane, but he is responsible for the poor reaction to the devistation. When the ship runs aground, the Captain is responsible. FEMA is headed by one of his kronies now who has no disaster experience, and the Guard troops FEMA was waiting for are in Iraq (duh). GWB only reacted when he began to suffer politically, not because he percieved human suffering.
I'm wondering if he will declare a "War on Weather".
As for 9-11 and the war in Iraq, they are two completely unrelated issues that Mr.Bush has masterfully muddled together and convinced a large portion of the sheep-like public that somehow invading an oil rich country that possed NO THREAT to our safety (remember 9-11 had nothing to do with Iraq, that was Al Qida) is patriotic duty. It's not, it's an abuse of power. I feel for those troops that had to go because they were already enlisted at the time. I'm not sure what I feel for anyone who has signed up knowing they would go.
I feel like we're all living on the Titanic right now. Some of us are locked below in flooding cabins, while others are swaying to the dance band waiting to board a privite life boat pretending that everything is fine because they can't hear, or arn't listening to, the screams.

Everyone to blame, some more than others...
Global warming is everyone concerns, saying that Kyoto is bad for the US economy is shortsighted. Cleaning now is less costly than later.
To reply on the Hummer and Bush point. This (and the previous) adminstration haven't done any real mesures to encourage cleaner alternative.
The worst part is that the hurricane didn't hit New Orleans dead on...
Here is a editorial:
Did New Orleans Catastrophe Have to Happen? 'Times-Picayune' Had Repeatedly Raised Federal Spending Issues
The worst part is that the hurricane didn't hit New Orleans dead on...
Quote:
The 2004 hurricane season was the worst in decades. In spite of that, the federal government came back this spring with the steepest reduction in hurricane and flood-control funding for New Orleans in history. Because of the proposed cuts, the Corps office there imposed a hiring freeze. Officials said that money targeted for the SELA project -- $10.4 million, down from $36.5 million -- was not enough to start any new jobs.
There was, at the same time, a growing recognition that more research was needed to see what New Orleans must do to protect itself from a Category 4 or 5 hurricane. But once again, the money was not there. As the Times-Picayune reported last Sept. 22:
"That second study would take about four years to complete and would cost about $4 million, said Army Corps of Engineers project manager Al Naomi. About $300,000 in federal money was proposed for the 2005 fiscal-year budget, and the state had agreed to match that amount. But the cost of the Iraq war forced the Bush administration to order the New Orleans district office not to begin any new studies, and the 2005 budget no longer includes the needed money, he said."
The Senate was seeking to restore some of the SELA funding cuts for 2006. But now it's too late.
One project that a contractor had been racing to finish this summer: a bridge and levee job right at the 17th Street Canal, site of the main breach on Monday.
The Newhouse News Service article published Tuesday night observed, "The Louisiana congressional delegation urged Congress earlier this year to dedicate a stream of federal money to Louisiana's coast, only to be opposed by the White House. ... In its budget, the Bush administration proposed a significant reduction in funding for southeast Louisiana's chief hurricane protection project. Bush proposed $10.4 million, a sixth of what local officials say they need."
Local officials are now saying, the article reported, that had Washington heeded their warnings about the dire need for hurricane protection, including building up levees and repairing barrier islands, "the damage might not have been nearly as bad as it turned out to be."

I think I'll dig out my life jacket.
Category 3 hit New Orleans. Catagory 4 in parts of MS if I recall.
You're confusing two things. Bush never said Iraq was responsible for 911. And Iraq posed MASSIVE threats to our safety and world safety. They launched attacks against multiple countries. Orchestrated a (failed) assasination of a United States President. Funded suicide bombers (terrorists!) Accepted al Queda (Zarqawi! et al). There were only remnants of WMDs in Iraq when we invaded, yes. It'll be interesting if we find out where they were exported to.
And for the hurricane funding, that project, even fully funded, would have not stopped what happened in New Orleans.
From the New York Times…
“Katrina dropped to a category 4 hurricane before it made landfall, and dissipated to a tropical storm as it moved inland.”
A hurricane is what it is, it’s not a level 4 in one place and a level 3 somewhere else at the same time. Katrina rolled over Nola as a level 4.
There were no WMD’s, this is a fact that has been shown by not finding anything, and by admissions of the Iraqi government. U.S. intelligence was doctored to make it look like they had WMD’s so the American public wouldn’t protest too much. This is hard fact, where have you been?
And Bush has tried to marry Iraq and 9-11 since day one. Any one can see that unless they are just denying that this administration is lying at every turn. The U.S. Government has never before spent so much on keeping secrets. For every one-dollar spent on releasing information they spend about $150 on classifying info. The most other administrations spent was $15 to every $1.
Why do you think they are so secretive? Is it patriotic to keep and sensor information from the populous?
Open your eyes, dig in, find out. Don’t take my word for it, and don’t take theirs, look into it for yourself.
"Quoted from todays New York Daily News Errol Lewis"
The rot extends to the federal level ,where much of the nationally televised incompetence and confusion in the Gulf region can be traced to the disastorous patronage hire of Michael Brown as director of FEMA . Brown utterly unqualified for the job spent the last decade running a trade association of horse breeders, Brown's sole qualification appears to be his friendship with Joe Albaugh who managed President Bush's 2000 campaign. After Bush won, Allbaugh was appointed FEMA director and brought Brown to the Agency. The administration later gave control of the agency to Brown- passing over countless thousands of emergency management proffesionals - when Allbaugh left FEMA to become a top lobbyist for Halliburton. Halliburton according to the Houston Chronicle , will be repairing Navy facilities in Mississippi and performing damage assesments in the New Orleans area . Corruption and our willingness to smile and wink at it has cost us dearly says U.S. attorney Jim Letten who is leading the New Orleans corruption inquiry.
"when they find where the WMD's were sent" ? Mr Rocket 21 have you ever heard the term cognitive dissonance I suggest you look it up even this administration has admitted that there were no WMD's and that Al Queda gained a foothold in Iraq after we invaded!!
