I was looking at this old thread
{ http://www.snowjournal.com/page.php?cid=topic210 }
but didn't find what I was searching for.
When did Cannon Mtn formally designate and open trails under or beyond the tram, such as Tramline and Kinsman Glade? It's been about 10 yrs since I've skied Cannon and I don't remember anything being officially open in that area of the mtn back then. Did I miss something? I assume this stuff is super steep? Is it open often? Are there more trails than I've mentioned to the left as you look up from tram base? Thanks.

tramline was "cut" during the summer of 2002 and opened for the first time as an official trail during the 2003 winter. it was open a fair amount of days but not a majority of the season for sure. i don't think the trail opened at all during 2004 if i remember correctly. it was open a fair amount of time this past winter, though it got roped a few times before it was shut down for good.

kinsman glade was also officially opened in 2003 if i remember correctly (possibly the year before, but i am pretty sure they debuted the same year); however, trail cutting on that trail had been on going for a while from what i understand and it had been an off the map route for years before finally getting put on the map. the trail needs a lot more clearing and takes A LOT of snow to fully fill in as it is quite steep in places and a lot of people lacking the appropriate skills side step the entire trail.

tramline is indeed steep and rather rocky, but not as steep as it looks from either the base or from the tram. if it wasn't for the rocks and thin cover and pinches, it wouldn't be much worse than your average steep natural snow black diamond. it can get quite hairy in places.

kinsman glade, imo, is just nasty nasty nasty. if you are affraid of base damage, this is not the trail for you even after a foot of fresh has fallen. it was thin cover in there practically all winter except immediately after a few big ones. so so so many people it there that should not be. it is the longest and steepest in bounds glade that i know of in new england and deserves some respect.

Great pics! Looks a lot like Rumble and Lift Line on Castlerock. How would you compare? With MRG?

also, if you know anyone that regularly skis up there, ask them about the ridge between mittersill and hardscrabble... they are absolutely brutal, but the snow can pile up it there sweet and deep. just don't do it alone because it can be a while before they find your body.

Hey rivercOil...I have a question.

On your sight you say that your season was 234 days long, but you only account for 38 days of it. What happened during the other 196?

I ask because, generally, if people say thier season was "X" amount of days, the assumption is that the "X" is the number of days acctually riding on snow.

Some may be skepticle of your claims and integrity for such a faux pas. I admire your enthusiasm, but perhaps exagerations and misleading statements should be omitted.

I couldn't ride till Jan. 14th, so I only rode about 90 days this season. Give or take a few.

where is the faux pas? the "ski season" lasted 234 days and i 38 total ski outtings during that season. i understand your symantical argument, but i really don't see people questioning my integrity over such symantics. if any one questions the integrity of such a claim, they can read all 38 trip reports to verify and most with first hand pictures right on the site. here is the exact quote word for word from my web page in which i clearly state exactly how many ski outtings i had in the same sentance i list the days of the season:

Quote:
My season started November 11th and was quantitatively and qualitatively my best season to date at 234 days long featuring 28 days lift serviced for $531.00 at an average lift ticket price of $18.96 and 10 days earning em' lowering the total per day cost to $13.97.

my reason for highlighting the legnth of the season was to show my season went from november to july which was three months longer than any of my previous seasons. wasn't meant as a boast to have skied more than half the days in the year and i would think most people would read it that way.

glad you enjoyed the pics. i can not compare to rumble or lift line at castlerock as i haven't gotten to ski those trails yet (darn wind holds!). generally steeper than inbounds trails at MRG at the steepest sections of tramline. but near the start of the trail and down low it is not bad at all. it's especially nasty where it pinches around a few rocks below the tower and at tower 1 itself. essentially, if you can ski fall line or paradise at MRG, tramline isn't going to be an issue.
