When I saw this heading I was expecting something about a mural in the cafeteria-lodge or some other way it was being brightened up. I guess that would be expecting too much for a ski area named Magic.

When I saw your response I was expecting something stupid & mindless. The funny thing is, that's exactly what we got!! Just goes to show that some people never change??

I thought that Swiftskiers post was funny. Paint on the OUTSIDE of a building is normal and expected. An attractive mural on an interior wall is a special way for managment to acknowledge their appreciation of their customers for choosing to ski at their mountain.

I too think swiftskier is funny( and knowledgable) and I enjoy his posts....anyone who thinks he is not pc should check out some other ski sites......in comparison this site is very conservative and about as pc as it gets...for example at TGR F bombs are a dime a dozen (and they make money there) .....we all have our 'roles" here ..... theres nothing wrong with a healthy debate, anyhow if we all got along this would boring

IMHO, I could really care less about a baselodge having a mural on a wall inside. In fact, I could care less about anything on a wall inside of a ski lodge. In fact, I could care less about what the base lodge looks like at all....as long as it is warm, has something to drink or buy to drink and doesn't smell too bad.

I have never and hopefully will never care about a base lodge when choosing where to ski.

atomic68- the date on those pics is 03/04/05 and i think judging by OG's pics that it was the outside of the lodge that was painted, not the inside. i don't think the inside needs a paint job, but it definitely still needs a lot of fixing up. i am sure we'll see that effort coming soon enough.

RivercOil-Thanks and I realize that it was the outside that was painted but since the inside "came up" I thought id share those pics I remembered seeing. (Trying to contribute any small way i can until i can get some of my pics on line here).....anyhow Ive never been to Magic but its near the top of my list to get to. BTW Im also waiting for one of our resident magic bashers to declare the Magic lodge "smelly" now that weve proven it looks good. Well Before I ever heard of Nelsap I remember when magic was closed i wanted to buy it & re-open it but didnt have the money of course

Its not about you! Its about the average skier that DOES care that the place that he brings his family on their precious free time together IS attractive.

I was up at my house this weekend and the Lodge looks awesome. They were pouring the footings friday for the Blue lift and that is going foreward. The trails were nicely trimmed also.

The had fireworks sponsored by the town of londonderry and a big BBQ with two amazingly good band (for vermont) There must have been a thousand people there dancing and goin nuts.

We went to my friends house at stratton sunday night for a bbq and fireworks and magic BLEW THEM AWAY!

This is true. But Magic has a niche. It will never be an "upscale, ritzy" place like Stratton. IMHO, for them to succeed and be a commerical success, they need to exploit this niche not try to change ... since they can not and will not be able to compete with Stratton, Bromley, and Okemo (their closest georgraphic competitors).

Mike I was there too. Saturday's display at Stratton lasted an hour and was spectacular. Or was it a private party?
Marcski The problem with "niche " skiers is that they don't spend enough money. Frequently single with season passes and "group ski houses" or day trippers.

Glad to see the base was poured. I think we will see some positive changes this year. Any news on the sign?

Bondman....while this is most likely true....I just don't see magic ever being a destination resort. I think it would be worse for them to try to be something they're not and never will be than to try to direct their efforts to something that they really are.

In the meantime...why don't we all stop bashing Magic? *(except for us, seemingly few, who appreciate everything magic has...including the lackluster paintjob )

Ya know, It amazes me. With all the love for Magic on this board, You think they would have the money to put a HSQ in, Not an old double.
