Although I didn't get a chance to actually ski, I did have an opportunity Friday afternoon to drive up to Black Mtn and check the place out. I've never skied at Black, but from the looks of the mountain, it must have some great terrain and a very unique feel. Another ski area to place on the must ski list!
Here's some pictures.....
I really enjoy skiing at Black. Beautiful southern exposure means it is warm when Wildcat is arctic. It has a nice old time feel that most nelsappers woudl like.
black mountain should definitely be on everyone's must ski list. i haven't skied there in longer than i care to admit (since the writing of the article i linked to), but i really really enjoy the mountain and it's value. one of the best family mountains around by far.
I skiied at Black 2 days after the big dump (2 feet +) a couple of weeks ago and there was still plenty of pow left. I was actually surprised that they only groomed 1/2 the mountain. I'm going there again this weekend; possibly another Pow day? I love the fact that you can get there after 10:00, still park right infront of the lift and ski with no crowds all day on a Saturday. Oh yeah, the $32 lift ticket is pretty nice too.
Places like Black, Burke, Magic, Beast, etc make me wonder if the ski industry's claim of how "they make no money" is true. These places stay in business year after year( granted some barely make it), never have huge crowds and charge about 1/2 what the big corporate places charge. It's kind of like MLB when they claim they make no money
Woodcore,
You should ski Black, interesting trails, fun staff, no crowds, good value. We make it a point to ski there at least once a year. Every one I take there likes it ba lot. However, ski it soon as they lose snow quickly. They are generally closed somewhere between 3/17 and 3/30 if I remember correctly.
