This topic was spurred by a recent thread that got me wondering about the oldest operating ski lifts in the Northeast (NY Included). Where are they? What year where they built? etc. My hope is that the wealth of knowledge present here on the Snowjournal discussions forums might be able as a group to put together a definitive list of the oldest operating ski lifts in the Northeast. (modifications to lifts allowed)

Here's what I can offer to start the list.

1948 - The Single Chair - Mad River Glen, VT
1954 - Big Spruce Double - Stowe, VT
1955 - East Bowl Double - Cranmore, NH
1958 - Upper Snowdon Poma - Killington, VT
1959? - Lower Poma Lift - Hickory Hill - Warensburg, NY
1961 - Black Triple Chair - Magic Mtn, VT

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Built in 1973, the Glades triple was installed in 1972.

The Tenney summit double was built in 1964.

The Black Mtn chairs in Jackson must be of the same vintage.
My guess is that Black T Bar is even older.

I think all of Bromley's current chairlifts date from the late 60's or later. The original summit double (now replaced by the HS Quad) was installed sometime around 1960 or so. I remember riding on it in the summer when it was still pretty new, and that was early 60's. The old J-bars were gradually replaced after that, but not much before 1970. Little Bromley, which was on the downhill side of Route 11, was still there in the mid-60's, though I don't know when it last operated.

Bromley is more along the lines of, The 3 Halls went in aorund the early to mid 70's. The Blue Ribbon Quad went in the early 90's. And of course the High speed went in in the mid 90's alond with the new lords prayer T-Bar. The kicker is, The before mentioned Plaza lift went in aorund the same time as the Old #1 chair went in. When Bromley owned Magic, They took down the beginner chair and took the chairs and strung them on the Plaza lift.

So that's why my old ski brochure referred to the current Bromley as "Big Bromley" I never knew there was a "Little Bromley"

There is a double chair (not sure what brand, it is a wood/metal hybrid) at Titus Mountain in Malone, NY that still operates on very crowded days. I am not sure what year, but it has been there since the moutain opened as Moon Valley....

Maybe if I snapped a picture someone could "diagnose" it...

Speaking of old operating lifts, I just uploaded some fantastic pics from chairlift.org contibutor Mike M. (Also some great pics from Mike S but the lifts aren't as old!). Check out the early Heron double chair that is practically all OEM!
