Smelick ... thanks for your insight ... I agree with you 100%. You should come back more frequently though... leaving in protest doesn't help at all! It's the quality members, like yourself, that we need here in full force!
CannonMtn .. thanks for your support! Everyone else, ditto!
I CAN FEEL THE LOVE. Chris, you have never closed a thread of mine. Thank You. I just don't understand why you would close ANY. Just delete the piece that you feel is objectionable and leave the thread alone. And lastly I feel that I too am a quality member with worthwhile thoughts to add. EXCUUUSE MEEEEEEEE!

Threads aren't deleted because of our respect for free speach, the very thing you've argued that we deny. I strongly feel that deleting posts would erode the group's trust in me. Although not pretty, its better to lock a bad thread effectively forcing it to move off the page of current topics instead of remaining in the current rotation. Extremely offensive posts, usage of foul language, etc. are generally removed.
Sometimes, if a discussion is marginal, we might lock it before it heads off in an expected direction. There are many reasons why a topic could be locked... all of those reasons are based on our experience as forum moderators. (Myself and the other moderators) ... we typically know if a thread will be headed somewhere we don't want it to go.
I would think that would be because YOUR thread has never been locked.
I'd argue that Chris owns all of the threads in this forum. Chris has locked some threads that I've enjoyed and participated in, however, I have no complaints. I don't feel deprived, I just can't back down from a debate. If any important topic relating to the ski industry has come up, reasonable discussion has always been allowed in here.
It seems to me all Chris was trying to do was steer this forum back on track and remind us all why we ended up here in the first place.... I'm surprised that so many took offense to that.
Does anyone else remember when this board was about skiing/ski areas/ski experiences?? Just checking....

Know what really bugs me about this thread? Everyone here has a common intrest - SKIING. And the moderator of his own forum puts up a post saying hey calm it down a bit and be respectful to everyone else. How hard is that to ask, just be nice. We learned it since we were little kids. And all people can do is complain about how he locked your topic. First off he hardly ever locks any threads, and still even if he did, it means that you were probably out of line and you should be more cordial in the future. HONESTLY, all you have to do is be respectful and I'm sure he will have no complaints.
In the future, just think before you type and be respectful. Remember, we are here to talk about skiing, not how to behave ourselves.
I'd like to add my voice to thank Chris and others association with this site for providing a fantastic forum for those of us with a deep love and passion for skiing. This must be a labor of love, Chris, and I would just like to raise a ski pole in salute to your great work. :^)
