When all other areas have shut down the lifts, we can depend on Killington to be spinning theirs. Sometimes you just have to forget the hype and just go ski the place.
I love this "hill" very early and late season, and I'm not ashamed! There's always enough trials left even in mid April to suit anyone's skiing ability and the action on the hill and at the lodge has a good feel. Pretty much, only the 'hard core' skiing people are there regardless of ability.
This past Saturday was great! The K-1, Superstar Quad and The Glades Triple were serving some fantastic Spring skiing. The day started with soft corn snow and was only slushy at the base and flatter portions on trails. I hit just about every open trail from Great Eastern to Ovation. By late morning, the sweater came off for tee-shirt skiing!
Around noon, while munching on a cookie near the K-1 lift I thought I heard my name, turned around and sure enough a couple of old friends were there! These guys are more experienced than I am so I was "forced" to ski terrain I might not have otherwise. After several runs down Superstar I'm starting to get the hang of moguls. Big day for Jimme! I found the lower 1/4 of the trail to be the hardest.
So that was my last day skiing and I am hanging up the boards until next season. The surprise of sking with my old friends just really put the icing on the final day for the season.
SOunds like a nice way to close out the season. Tomorrow may be it for me, as well, but I'll see.
I need to get working more on my second and third jobs to make up for time on the boards this winter. Fortunately, one of them may get me into the mountains quite a bit. Not a bad deal.
I haven't been to K-mart in a long time. A late season trip might be a nice way to get back there.
Withdrawl symptoms are starting to set in...
