No new ski areas for me this year, but I finally got to ride the Cirque platter lift at Snowmass for the first time, and ski the Headwall terrain a few times - very nice!
Lots of new experiences for me, but just two new resorts. Berkeshire East took the prize with a late winter, sunny powder day, despite a core shot taken pilfering the pow on a trail edge. Great terrain, bargain rates (esp midweek) and overall a great setup. Not to hijak the thread over to well covered ground, but Magic could learn something about how to cater to a niche market from this place. I'll definitely be back next year (to Magic, too).
My other new resort was courtesy of a more important new experience, buying AT gear. I made a regular habit of hiking Wawawachusett prior to lifts opening. It's a nice place when there's freshly fallen or freshly groomed snow and almost nobody else on the hill. I'll probably even pick up a century pass next year, since it's so convenient. My AT gear also took me to two new NESLAP areas (for me), Watatic and Temple. I can't wait for a snowier winter; there's lots more to sample in the area.
I also finally made it to Tuck's, although it was in January. You'd think I'd get out there in the spring, too, but it doesn't look that way.
Finally, the best new experience of all, my 9-month old son Gabriel. (Photo is several months old, but he's just as cute.) I didn't get in as many days as I would have liked, but he makes it worth it. __________
