I've been doing a little thinking about my hobbies. In the winter (a bit more so than year-round) I am consumed with skiing. My friends and family know it is my priority. In the summer I'm consumed with roller coasters. This is actually my biggest year in terms of the attention and energy I've put into coasters. I think I have come to a realization that I'm addicted to speed. Because when I think about it, over the last few years I've been skiing faster and faster. And now I want to ride every exhilerating coaster I can reach. I guess some people get high on drugs or alcohol. I've always opted for the natural high of music. And now add the speed I can attain on skis or riding a roller coaster to that list of natural highs.[addsig]
Having been both to Busch Gardens and Universal IOA, I would suggest you check out Universal, especially since you've never been. The park is practically brand new and the rides are state of the art. Be sure to "ride" Superman, possibly the best amusement park attraction I've ever been on. Other great rides were the Incredible Hulk, Doctor Doom's Fearfall, Jurrasic Park, and they also have a great log ride. In case you havent seen the website....
I've only been to one of the two--Islands of Adventure. The Hulk coaster that Betsy mentions is great-a must-ride. They have Spiderman that the Discovery channel gushes over, but other than those and the others Betsy mentions, not a ton of big people thrill rides. If you are bringing a family along though, it should be perfect.[addsig]
Last March, a few friends of mine and myself went to Sugar Loaf, Me. for a few days. This was after the March thaw and had set up as hard and fast to say the least. Charlie had brought a GIS meter which could provide you with a top
speed in miles per hour. He toped out at 71 mph in a tight tuck. We were questioning the acuracy of this device in this application. We have checked in the car on the way up against the speedomoter and it was right on. Has anybody else used these like this before?[addsig]
I saw some Ski Patroller's using a 'speed gun' (one with the gun, about halfway down the mountain, other's,coming past at intervals) at one of the Lake Tahoe resorts, not sure which one,Kirkwood I think.
So,resort workers,do you know how fast you can go ?
Thanks,BB,by the way,for dragging the subject back to snow sports.Roller Coasters are so Lame,TURX.[addsig]

Yes, the used one at mohawk Mtn one one day in Jan, solely for this purpose. Top speed was 59 mph. Not bad for Mohawk. [addsig]
