I just got back from a week in Tirol, Austria, and spent an hour in the namesake town of one of everyone's favorite almost-lost New England mountains. It's not a ski area per se, but a cute village located over the Thurn Pass, just at the end of the Kitzbühel resort.
What's stunning about many Austrian and European ski areas is not only how much vertical they offer -- we went to four of their "smaller" mountains and each offered +4,000 continuous lift-served vertical -- but how you can ski literally from one village to the next... a distance that can often take 20 minutes or more to drive!

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Mittersill (NH) does have an architectural resemblence to the original Mittersill.[addsig]

awesome pics dude!! very neat!
remember the founders of Mittersill (NH) were from Austria? that probably explains the connection with the architecture of the buildings...
peace dudes!

Look at those mountains right next to town... facing north with at least 3,500 vertical feet. And no ski area!

I've been to both Mittersills myself and they are very similar. The architecture in the old NH resort is supposed to resemble Austrian buildings.
Mittersill in Austria is a GREAT town!! Great area too.
