Havent skied it (it's on my list!),but YES, it is open to the public. I think if you stay at the hotel, the lift ticket is included in your nightly rate.
It's on my list too as it is only about 1/2 hour from my brother's other house in Cannan, VT. I plan to stay there some weekend and then go. It is WAY up there.

Balsams hotel is 5 star- great food but the hill is flat enough to play golf on. New Hampshire is the poorest of the NE states for challenge but if you're on you way through you can have fun at Cannon or Attitash. Drive right by Sunday River to the 'Loaf or head west to Jay Peak, Stow/Smugglers or for the real hardcore, Mad River Glen. At MRG, though you gotta leave your snowboard home- they won't let you on the hill
stayed in the hotel in the summer. I seem to remember a riblet double but I was young at the time. (I had a skid row tape in my walkman all trip so I was probably 14). Looked like a cool little area. good um....golf - Dave (Chairlift.org)
I skied it around '87 or so. It's open to the public and me guess is it hasn;t changed much. It's in the heart of Dixvile Notch, that little hamlet of 15 registered voters that makes new every four years by staying uplate on election eve and casting their ballets at 12:01.
Wilderness is a great little spot. Worth checkngout if you're "a-way up Noth, ayup!"
