CANTING & LIFTING...We "old timers" were doing this in the early 70's...Instead of canting the boot top, we had plastic "spacers" under the bindings. The "spacers" could be stacked to get the boot higher on the ski. The draw-back to this type of canting was you could only ski on the skiis one way...You couldn't swap edges if one edge dulled up......THE DISAPPEARING BOTTOM GROOVE...We used to (early 70's) fill-in our slalom race skiis groove with a hard wax to eliminate it so the ski would react quicker to edge initiation & speed up the ski in the turn...We didn't do this to our GS skiis bcuz the ski would get too"worbly" at speed...TWIN-TIPS...OLIN made them 1st in the 70's...SHORT SKIS...Bump skiers were using them WAY LONG ago...(& people with real length skis bitched about the size & shape of the bumps...LOL)...UPWARD TOE RELEASE...Can you say CUBCO, SPADEMAN, & BURT bindings...(xtra points if you can tell me what made the BURT binding RADICALLY different...)...SPYDER DOWNHILL SUITS...CB VAUGHN invented the skin-tight pants & tops that looked like they were your mother's nylons they were so small...But STRETCHABLE...(No, I didn't forget Mr.& Mrs. Bogner)...REAR BOOT SPOILERS...Two words...JET-STIX...SOFT TOP LEATHER SKI BOOTS..."Are you still lacing while others are racing???"...HENKE buckle boots...circa 1966...FORWARD LEAN ADJUSTMENTS...A drill, a bit, & a pocketful of rivets...>>>Any others I've missed???Fill me in...>>>SKIULATA>>>>>>>>[addsig]

SPADEMAN!!!!
I have four pair of Elan GLM skis, 2 ft, 3ft, 4ft and 5 ft with spademan bindings sitting here right now. They will eventually make their way to the New England Ski Museum. I also have 2 sets of adapter plates that will fit today's boots which makes these skis actually still skiable with this binding. (I don't know if I would trust the binding for steeper terrain, but...) It's kind of funny, the adapter plates make it sort of like the newer bindings with the extra space (lifter/riser) between your foot and the ski.
Added: Hey, just remembered the old "bear trap" bindings that came on my skis that were purchased at Aubuchon Hardware Store (also available at Spags and Sears) when I was a kid.

Do you remember the K2 boots? Now they were "funky" for their time period. When I first bought this house there was an orange pair around here someplace that once belonged to my brother, but I think I threw them out...along with the Black Steel HEAD skis and a couple sets of Bamboo Poles...darn, I wasn't into the history aspect of skiing much then.[addsig]

The BURT binding would automatically retract. i.e. two cables {heel & toe} would pull the ski back to the binding. Side benefit..... no need for runaway strapes! [addsig]

Ouch! What a way to speak about an old lady! There must have been at least two pairs of those Blizzards, because a friend of mine had a pair...and he's no Willy Bogner! The uniski I'm refering to looked like a snow board with the bindings mounted as if Stein Erikson might ski it. I'm not sure about the platform...I only spotted this thing from the lift in the late 60's. As we said back then, "Peace!"[addsig]

Graves were solid fibre glas. In the day when "De-laminating" skis often was teir demise, this was thought (birefly) to be a good thing. Their only problems were that they were heavy and they skied like 2 x 4's. Other than that, a great ski [addsig]

This post makes me wanna mount some descent bindings on my Graves. I never actually skied on em, my father gave them to me as a joke since I have a tendency to break a lot of skis. Said "lets see you break these". [addsig]
