Mount Snow = Named after Ruben Snow who owned the farm when the base area is. Of course if he had a different name, like "Rain", I don't think they would have gone with it.
Cochrans = Or is that more of a family name and not a single person.

Ski Ward, aka Ward Hill in Shrewsbury, Mass. I believe the hill is named after the Ward family that owned it. Some of that family can trace its roots back to Artemas Ward of Shrewsbury, Revolutionary War general who, when the Continental Congress named George Washington general of the army, reluctantly turned over command of the troops around Boston (who pretty much made up the army at that time) to him. I don't think Artemas skied, though the area is east of his home, which still stands. It probably was part of his property.
open places in the Mid Atlantic would be Bryce resort in Bayse, VA and Boyce park ski area near Monroeville, PA
William Bryce was the owner of the property where a DC summer retreat was built in the early 20th century, and later evolved into the ski and golf resort. William's wife was a Bayse, for which the town is named.
Boyce Park is named for William D. Boyce, Western PA native and founder of the Boy Scouts of America.
The original name of Ski Liberty, near Gettysburg, Pa was Charnita, which was a combination of CHARles and aNITA Gist, the ski area founders.
I have never come across a reference to the origin of the names for Denton Hill, PA, or Beech Mt, NC.
Talk about a thread screaming for a summary and some clarifications!
- Somehow, I think jaytrem is putting us on with his Mt. Pisgah/Mt. Snow nomination
- I suspect both Burke and Jay were named after their main Mountain/Peak. That the mountains were originally named after someone is secondary.
-Snow's Mtn, Mt. Peter: Got more details?
Loafasaur asked me for a ruling on Mount Abram. I know nothing about the naming of that mountain (I am a big Bullwinkle fan though.)
When I lived in Cincinnati, I skied Perfect North Slopes and will attest that for that part of the country it is perfect!

Nope...
"May 1953 – The Land is Purchased and a Ski Area is Named
Farmer Reuben Snow, who owned land at the base of what is now Mount Snow, passes away. Walt buys his land including his farmhouse (what is now the Snow Barn). Walt wrestles with what to call his ski area; Mount Pisgah doesn’t sound quite right. Then it comes to him – he’ll name it Mount Snow, after Reuben Snow."
