There are some old forum posts on this lift.
Here is one.
Seaside Heights Chair

Okay, so who knows if haul ropes are grounded some how? The designs must take lightning strikes into account, don't they?

Every tower is to be grounded.

I remember reading once about a haul rope welded to a sheave by lightning. Can someone confirm that? I don't know if the grounded haul rope would be a faraday cage for someone stuck on a chair or not.

Aren't there rubber liners on bullwheels and sheaves? And why would you bother grounding the haul rope anyway? If it's not grounded it's not going to complete the circuit to the Earth so lightning won't hit it.

In lightning situations. the lifts are evac right away to protect riders. Most of all (in operations thinking) to shut down the drives. If a chair has power on (say the Fincor) it is more likely to get hit than when power is off. Im sure many of you have heard stories of drive terminals, shacks, or ramps that had a fire at one time or another. All towers are grounded. If the lightning hits a lift, it still has to travel through something before it gets all the way to the ground.

Any record of anyone ever being struck while on a lift?

The Sheave Liners have Graphite in the rubber, and ground through the bearing to the tower. Never herd of anyone being struck on a LIft.
