Quote: Apocryphal observations:
- of auto AC failures being greater than auto heat failures
Don't auto heaters simply work by blowing air across the engine block to heat it up? That is certainly a lot simpler than an air conditioner, which makes greater failures of AC's not really apocryphal.

A skier, a telemarker and a snowboarder were spending their summer going for a hike in Death Valley. They met before dawn to check and compare their gear.
The skier had a whole keg of beer. "We're going to get really thirsty out there, so we're definitely going to want plenty of beer."
The Telemarker had a flask of wine and a big cheese. ""We're going to get hungry as well as thirsty, so we're going to want plenty of cheese."
The snowboarder had a car door. "We're going to get f-ing hot out there, so we're going to want to roll down the window!"

No. Cars have a smaller radiator that is heated by the coolant. Because the units are smaller, they can become clogged (more common in older cars). They also have hoses that can leak. The fan speed control is done either by a resistor network or in cars with automatic climate control a solid-state control circuit.

The humid heat, bugs and lawn mowing.
Not sure if it's allergy related, but I absolutely hate mowing the lawn. My salvation is that people don't shovel their lawn in Winter.

Road Construction... was stuck in a six mile back-up at Snoqualmie pass over the holiday. Feels much better waiting in traffic that is a result of avalanche control as opposed to bridge-building.

Just so you know the AC is not a fan blowing over a bucket full of ice in the trunk.

The truth is, unless you are driving very old unmaintained cars, neither heat nor AC is a rocket science issue. The newest car in my stable is a 2000 Corolla, my oldest is a 1997 Accord. AC and heat work fine in all, but only because I am fortunate to be at a point in life where I can afford to have them maintained. BTW: Want to save a fortune? Buy an 8 to 10 year old well maintained used Toyota or Honda with about 100K miles on it. For $2K, you'll get 100K trouble-free miles; save on insurance (no collision needed), save on depreciation and save on excise tax. Leaves you more money to buy lift tickets

You know in New England there are really only two seasons: Winter and Road Repair

Third (and probably last) summary:
Outdoor Activity Issues
- Poison ivy, oak and sumac
- allergies, especially pollen related
Misc. Bugs:
- Black flies
- Mosquitos
- Gnats
- Ticks
- Chiggers
(plus their various potential diseases: Lyme, EEE, West Nile, etc.)
Can't use wood:
- to cool house
- as a comforting affectation (i.e. decorative fires)
Weather:
- heat
- sunburn
- humidity
- Snowless Noreasters
- automobile AC vs. automobile heating
Beer and other Drinks
- Need for refrigerator (rather than a snow pile) to keep drinks cold
- Source for your "bucket of ice"
Change in "comfort foods"
- e.g.: Poutine
Vacation Blues:
- Traffic (although traffic can be a real problem in the winter in places like Conway)
- Road maintenance vs. road salting/plowing
Outdoor Maintenance:
- Cut grass
- Home repairs (but no snow shoveling or frozen pipes)
Apocryphal observations:
- lack of discussion topics on the forum
- The old joke returns about the Boston Red Sox moving to the Phillipines where they will be renamed "The Manilla Folders"
- No skiing in the summer olympics
Got more?

Winter clothes are more comfortable (they wick) and (on those of us who are not models) they are better looking (they cover wrinkles, scars, tattoos and bulges).

I know that in the winter I can visit the beach and be safe in the knowledge that I will not strain my neck watching beautiful bodies in very small bathing suits.

The only thing I don't like about Summer is getting there. Late April with the mud and start of black fly season and late November with no foliage, no snow and no light. Both usually with a lot of depressing rain and black ice. Once summer is up and running I'm fine - its the transition I can't take.
