The Vintage ski post cards thread by Tom White contains some really neat stuff.
FYI you can also find some great old ski photos in the online Life Magazine photo archive. If someone knows a better way to search it let me know, meanwhile you could start with this link showing some ladies slaying deep powder somewhere around Lake Placid in 1944:
LIFE Lake Placid

To see more photos from the link above you can just start clicking on the related images displayed on the right of the screen or below the related images you can type words into the search box like Sun Valley, Aspen, Winter Olympics, ski fashions, etc. What you can find is amazing, I just haven't found a way to locate stuff very systematically. Who knows if they have some NELSAP worthy images in there?? Most of the images seem related to famous places, people, or events.

Here is a thread on Epicski.com that contains more examples of fun ski-related images from this same LIFE mag archive to give you a little taste of what's in there:

That guy with the kneepads and helmet looks more like a luger or bobsledder than a skier.

Life had a magazine issue with snowmaking and skiing. It had photos of Bousquet, which the article was based on. I have no idea what year it was. I looked at a copy years ago. Very cool photos. A picture taken at Bousquet was also on the cover.

Well, I would imagine Bousquet19 MUST have a copy. But with the copyright laws he may not be able to post them. I wonder if those are the same photos they have downstairs in their lodge? If I remember correctly, I think they have pictures of JFK & Jackie skiing there.

I didn't see it on this list, but they aren't Life.

While I was searching I saw a ref. to Jackie skiing at Butternut, but there are some old timey pictures in the base of Bousquet. I'm not sure now what they are of.

Found this article, which states this:
Bousquet History
" Bousquet: In 1956, the historic ski center was sold to a brash young New York attorney and ski trip promoter, Donald L. Soviero, who bought the property for a reported $100,000. He installed the worlds then largest snowmaking system, covering the entire Russell Slope. He also replaced several rope tows with a T-bar lift, then a Poma-lift and finally a 3,500-foot-long double chairlift. Soviero reaped tons of publicity, and Life Magazine ran a full-page picture of the slope, covered by machine-made snow (and also with skiers) when Stowe, the self-advertised Ski Capitol of the World, was offering only ice-skating over a snowless Christmas Week."

But while searching the previous Life site mentioned & the actual Life site I couldn't find it. Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Thanks for your post ski_it. Wish I could help on this one. I do recall the photos posted in the Bousquet base lodge during the Soviero era at the ski area. There was the photo of snowmaking (from Life magazine), plus photos of then-senator JFK with Mrs. Kennedy speaking at Bousquet ski area.

Finding the late 1950s Life magazine issue has been on my fun-to-do list for a while, but I don't have a copy yet. If anybody funds out the date, please post!

Woody

A-h-h, speaking and not skiing. Well, since I am much closer to the JFK Library then Bousquet I should head over there to see these photos again.

Rick, have you been holding out on me?

I finally got around to looking at the whole series of Lake Placid photos (first post). Did people have more fun in those days? Sleighrides, skating, cross country, ice chairs, parties. Of course there was only so much downhill you could do. Now when I make the drive up north and pay $60+ for a ticket I feel I have to get in a full day's skiing.

In this picture, I wonder if that's a ski slope in the background.

Anybody know where there was a ski jump and a tow on the same hill? Jump and tow

And should I know who these twins are? There's a dozen or more photos of them. Twins

Yes! Rhona and Rhoda Wurtele, enshrined in Ishpeming

edit:

as for having more fun in those days, some of the photos would lead one to believe so:

Im guessing the jump and tow to be Mt Van Hoevenberg?
Could the small slope in the distance be Fawn Ridge?

I just read up on Lake Placid history and the 1932 jumps were at the same place as the present ones. It looks like the top of the hill behind the jumps is flat. Actually it looks flat in the photos too.

Rick, thanks for the date post.
This is one way I found to view these Life pages online.
LIFE - Google Books
Scroll down to page 97 through 101
Snoqualmie, WA - Mt Snow, VT - Stowe, VT - Bousquet, MA and others are pictured.

the Life thing led me all around the interweb, eventually to that Google book library. really appreciate it! hate to be in the microfilm business right about now.

Abubob - that woman was Leni Reifenstahl, in one of the "lighter" moments of her cinematic career. You've seen other examples of her work in history class.
