Is all of the Summit Local still at the base, or just a fraction of it? It was my impression that although it was being split up into three lifts, some would still not be used as the lift was something like 7800 ft. But perhaps with the bad winter, Peaks put off some improvements for a year.

7370. from Chairlifts.org. I wonder how many chairs it had? It says a line speed of 550fpm. It never seemed close to that. At some of those midwest areas, I bet chairs average 2000 ft in leingth.

If I remember right it was in the 200s for number of Chairs. The drive room and operator huts ended up being scraped. The motor and Apu went to the Challenger Lift. The towers, haul rope, chairs, return terminal, and the drive bull-wheel with the gear box still attached to it are located at Mount Snow's Howe Farm in Wilmington!

They brought in a helicopter to remove the Ascutney towers.

Hey Chris, how about an update? Haven't seen anything on FB in a couple of weeks.

I'm sure there will be an FB update soon (marketing manager is working on it)

Here's the latest ... we worked this week on disassembling the riblet towers and prepping the parts for shipping to Hidden Valley. The lift is scheduled to ship out next week. The first pieces of the Ascutney quad arrived at CM yesterday ... 5 sections of the summit terminal. The chairs from the new lift are currently in Connecticut being galvanized. Snowmaking installation at the summit is well underway...

Here are some photos of the lift removal that aren't on Facebook, but showed up in a marketing email about an hour ago:

Are the towers going to be galvanized a la the Hunter West HSQ or will they be painted black like the rest of the mountain?

July 1, 2012 - Sunday
First time at CM for me in four weeks.

A hike of the mountain shows the following:
- The major assemblies for the base and summit for the HSQ are in the parking lot.
- Trails at the top are looking great. Blasting looks like it is done and the trails are being prepared.
- Snow making installation at the summit area is ongoing (I didn't notice anything with lighting.)
- The old Summit Quad is completely gone with three exceptions:
-- The footings for the towers are still in place and I don't expect it to be cost effective to remove them
-- The "Summit Unloading-Station Building" has been moved to the new top. It is fully installed. I am told it will be used in conjunction with snow making pump house control
-- The Base bull-wheel and assembly have not been removed.
(I heard that the lift hasn't been shipped out yet, but I didn't see the towers or chairs around)
- Light fixtures that were attached to the towers are sitting on the ground (presumably to be re-installed on the new towers)
- The Ski Patrol Building was dragged to the new top. The word was that except for the deck falling off, it was not a casualty of the trip. To be sure, the building needs to be jacked up and leveled, but it looks also that the walls are tilted - not quite to the fun house level, but I don't think I would want to be in it under its current condition if there was a heavy snow load on the roof!

Joshua, I've been following your reports along with facebook with great interest. Since I won't be getting a season's pass at Ragged this year I feel like a free agent. Hope I can hook up with you and maybe tedede this year. Looking forward to trying Crotched and riding Ascutney's former quad again.

Bob, I'm looking forward to skiing with you again.

Perhaps a Nelsap day would be in order?

Is there any news on if Ascutney might re-open? The Wikipedia article on Ascutney has a link to saveascutney.com that is as dead as the ski area.

Tedede, A mini Nelsap day to say the very least.

As far as Ascutney goes http://saveascutney.wordpress.com/ has some info but it's last post is from Dec 2010 so their information is out of date.

One of rocket21's best was his report on the last CM NELSAP Day. It's been a while!

I don't think anything has changed since you asked this on page 7 of this thread.

July 5, 2012 - Thursday
Amazing changes in just 4 days:
A hike of the mountain shows the following:
- More major assemblies for the base and summit for the HSQ are in the parking lot. At least four flatbeds trucks arrived today filling most of the parking spaces between the Main Lodge and the ATC.
- Snow making installation at the summit area is ongoing. Welders were working when we passed that area of the mountain
- The Base bull-wheel and assembly from the old Summit Quad were being removed.
- The old Summit Quad has not been shipped out and is sitting in the upper parking lot just east of the ATC

I grew up on the Canadian border just post Maurice "the Rocket" Richard, in the era of his very talented, albeit lesser brother, Henri "the Pocket Rocket" Richard. So the transistion from the "Pocket Rocket" to the "Crotched Rocket", on some level mirrors the move of my interests from da hockey to da skiing.

What would you like to know about the "Rocket" that hasn't already been discussed?

More progress:
A hike of the mountain shows the following:
- It appears that most, if not all, of the parts of the HSQ are now in the parking lot. (No chairs: I am told that they are off being galvanized.)
- Snow making installation at the summit area is ongoing.
- The housing for the bull wheel at the base of old Summit Quad is still in place. The bull wheel was removed.
- The old Summit Quad has still not been shipped out and is sitting in the upper parking lot just east of the ATC
- The ground on Plutos is marked where the HSQ towers are going. One has to believe that will happen soon, because a couple of rain storms will erase the markings!
- They are using a high clearance dump truck/loader to bring dirt and wood chips to the summit to cover and mulch the blasted and widened area. The truck is in the parking lot and tens of piles of dirt and mulch can be seen in the areas near the top
