Had to head to the northeast kingdom to help with a crew I work with. Got there just after first chair and already the lot was a fillin'. Unilke the rest of VT, there was snow in the air and it was binding deep powder on the groomers.
First runs took me to the top with a quick cruiser down Willoghoby and then back down to the base where I found my companions. We proceeded to check out the beginner trails first before heading up top for the rest of the day.
They had a lot of decent coverage. The groomed runs were cut just right so edging was easy and I found myself looping long turns down the steeps. There was just enough new snow on the ground to cover up some of the rougher spots but not enough to keep them from gouging. For that reason I stayed out of the woods-- a real bummer as a good tree fest is always fun.
There were some icy spots, especially where they had race training before and hadn't groomed in the track as of yet. Caused some unwelcome screeing of the edges through those areas but easily escaped. Deer Run was a nice twister back and forth across the skiers right of the mountain.
One thing about Burke is that their blues, despite being "intermediate" really have some pitches to them. Overall, yup, they even out, but there are some decent drops there that caused a bit of a scare for the weaker members of the crowd going over the edge.
All the people were friendly, and promised that they were due for 7 inches tonight. Too bad I have to go back to work...
