Was at Mt. Ellen today from about 10am to 2pm....outstanding. This was one case where I think the ski report underestimated the snowfall at 3-6. I'd say there was 6 at mid mountain but probably more like 8 or 9 at the top of Northridge and summit....maybe the wind did some off of that, but it was nice just the same.
Conditions were great, but I found the woods a little disappointing. The thaw seemed to hit hard in terms of letting the various types of junk poke through...I hit quite a few previously buried pieces of blowdown and pungee sticks. A nice plus was the recent decision to put a snowgun on the top of the Bravo headwall - that and Exterminator were very good. Cover in most of the "on piste" areas seems very good.
Yup, another 2-5" overnight. These frequent small snowfall events don't make the headlines of the Weather Channel but this winter all of the northern NE ski hills have been getting them.
Yesterday was awesome except for the buttally cold wind. I didn't ski, I work in the lodge, but have to go outside from time to time and it was cold. The fact you didn't mention it tells me your an experienced skir/rider, properally dressed. Many were not....
And another 6" or so last night- today was fantastic at Mt. Ellen- no real wind, fluffy snow Had a moose cross Brambles in front of me...sorry, no camera with me...the thing was huge. Probably the bull that lost its antlers on Tumbler a few weeks ago.
Still firm underfoot and I wouldn't bring your good skis if you venture onto non-snowmaking trails, but it is great skiing.
