We where skiing Mt. Snow Sat. and the summit express had to be evacuated at around 3:30 pm. they did a great job doing it only took about a 1/2 hour to get everyone off by ropes. Really scary site though would not want to be on the lift when that happens. Also the sun was dropping and it was really cold. I heard that the bearing in the bullwheel went bad, still not working today either. So anyone coming up to ski be aware that the Summit Express is closed.

Yan return bull wheel bearings aren't too easy to find these days; L.E. strikes again.

Hi, K3000 and welcome to SJ, I am not sure that is the original Yan bullwheel, pretty sure all that was replaced years ago when they changed it over. But not really sure, maybe you know more than me.

The good news here is that Mt. Snow has another sumit lift -The Sumit Local - a fixed grip tripple. It's paid for, easy to maintain, easy on electric and warmer than the Sumit Express. With the other two high speen lifts operating, one will still get lots of verticle in a day.I don't think many other ski areas could get through having one of their major sumit lifts going offline better then Mt. Snow can.I hope they can repair it before this weekend!

And 3 other lifts can reach just about the summit too, Sunbrook and the 2 North Face triples.

Time for that high speed sixpack we're all predicting!

The bullwheel is the original L.E. bullwheel. The only thing replaced were grips and the attach/ detach equiptment in the terminals. If it was anything like a lot of the other Yan high speed the bullwheel was warped.

I'll be at sneaux on friday, hopefully they have it fixed by then!

I'm planning on going on Thursday, so status updates from those in the know would be appreciated.

Was there yesterday. Was able to still get a lot of runs in using lifts that I actually rarely use. The summit triple wasn't bad and used the ego alley chair a lot until they shut it down sometime in the afternoon. Also did laps on the North Face. Trail of the day was Falling Timbers.

On a side note, the snow up there was great. They did an amazing job recovering from the rain.

Latest update from the horse's mouth.

"Grand Summit Express, lift #11, will remain closed as we are still experiencing some mechanical difficulty carried over from the weekend. We are hoping to have it up and running to help you access the summit by mid week as we are waiting for the proper part. Please keep checking back to the snow report for further updates. "

Ditto on my experience today. Virtually no ice on Fallen Timbers and nice rhythmic bumps most of the way.

The other spectacular run of the day was the glade (no longer on trail maps) that used to be called "Claim Jumper" next to the Carinthia Express. It was soft, well covered, and nice easy bumps. It was just plane fun - not to mention: beautiful.

the reason for so much snow on that glade is because of snowmaking on mineshaft and nitro, did you check out the smaller 1/2 pipe on mineshaft?

I think I took about 10 runs on Claim Jumper, 10 on Fallen Timbers and 10 or so on various other things that didn't bring me back for seconds.

I wasn't on Mineshaft all day.

Missed claim jumper glades. I never even thought about going into the trees, but thinking about it now with all the snowmaking a bunch of snow would have blown in.

The amounts of snow made on Carintia is incredible. Some of those mounds were enormous.
