Has anyone ever been to this event on opening day? I'm thinking about doing so this year to avoid the crows of Saturday/Sunday but wouldn't want to show up and see that half the exhibitors are still at home the first night. Thoughts?

Thanks!

I always try to attend on opening Thursday night.

There may be a few reps missing, but overall everyone is fresh
and excited, which cannot be said when Sunday rolls around.

Lots of smiles and handshakes.

Crowds are still there, but not like Saturday crowds.

Traffic coming from the North is usually lighter too.

FYI...Don't count on any ski celebs or autographs opening night either;
most roll in over the weekend.

Now only if the resorts would realize that this show is their first best
chance to connect with their audience and have more giveaways....
but that is another topic.

Usually go on Friday nights, one year went on Thursday night. It is more relaxed and there are no crowds. Some of the reps were pretty pickled too...seemed easier to get freebies/discounts.

I double booked my Friday this year, so am going to be among the throngs on Saturday instead. Real curious to see how long I can put up with it. Crowds aren't my thing, but the ski show really helps me get my brain back into ski season.

I was planning on going tonight, but couldn't make it.

I'll be there Saturday, though!

Ended up heading over for opening out last night and made out great!

It's was one extreme or the other with some of the resort representatives... I won't name names but they'll definitely be mountains I won't be visiting anytime soon (that I was very excited to visit) just based on their representatives holyer than thou 'tudes.

Pleasant surprise of the night was getting to talk to Tommy Moe for awhile and no one around at that point

Did get a chance to stop by the New England Ski Museum booth -- wish I had brought extra monies to buy some of the cool stuff! I'll definitely have to make a special trip up this season

I don't go anymore but when I did it was alot of fun. Curious if Tommy Moe was there for Jackson Hole or his own company. He's a cool guy. Just a couple of years after moving to Jackson he rescued a kayaker, who dumped in the biggest rapid on the Snake during high water. Not sure if he still lives in Wyoming, it was a bunch of years ago.

Hey does any one know where to get discount tickets for the show? I went to a bunch of places in the area, East Coast Alpine, Hobs, etc. They didn't have them. Any ideas?

I have another hint to score some freebies...

Show up LATE on Sunday when the reps are breaking down their booths and are in need of a second set of hands or eyes.

Don't wear nice clothes and be prepared to lug some equipment.

Some reps will reward nicely.

Worked for my cousin in the past.

Dissappointing show. They've really cut back the free lift tickets. Stratton isn't doing the internet freebie. Not much new stuff in the industry and in trying to book a vacation at a "Ski Show deal" most just referred me to a web-site.

Oh well.

The show seamed to be much smaller this year. Hardly any ticket give aways. No killer deals to be had. I would think with the economy in the stink tank, they would be doing all they can to get people to the mountains.

KC

However still had a good day.

Agree the show was smaller this year, but disagree that the freebies were worse. IMO many of the freebies disappeared a couple years ago. Bigger areas especially have been pretty stingy the last several years. I went with 6 others and we still had fun and collected some offers. There were 2fers to be had including Jiminy and Dartmouth Skiway. Our group got some freebies too inc several Bromley, Ragged, Cranmore, Nashoba, Bradford. Small mountains/hills, but free is free and I know we'll have a good day anywhere.

I also ended up booking a weekend trip to Sunday River. The onsite crew was able to find better/bigger townhouses than I'd found on the website. They also offered extra 10% off for booking at the show. It was very competitvely priced based on the research I had done.

No matter what, the show always helps me really start thinking about the season...even when it's 50+ degrees outside.

I wish there was one in New York City.
The NJ Ski Council event is very nice, but this sounds great.

Trip Report: Went to the show on Sunday. Met LaurieP in person (she's just as expected -- very nice). Bought Jeremy's book. Ate some free samples. Won a free day pass (Bromley). Got my annual 90-second pre-season workout on the Skier's Edge. Had a beer... Talked to a couple of ski reps. Got home in time to see the Pats on TV. Observations: Stowe seemed to have by far the largest representation (on a square foot basis) at the show of any ski area (I realize that they had multiple Stowe-related booths). Cannon's booth was pretty massive, too.
