Russell Southworth 1932 - 2009 MARLBORO Russell Brocklehurst Southworth, 76, of Marlboro died Saturday morning in Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. He was born in Fall River, Mass., on Sept. 9, 1932, the son of Joseph and Ethel Brocklehurst Southworth. In 1947, he moved to Wilmington, where he graduated from Wilmington High School in 1950. He spent four years in the Navy as a Sea Bee, stationed in Greenland. Mr. Southworth is best remembered as the general manager of the now closed Hogback Ski Area in Marlboro, retiring in 1987 after more than 30 years there. He was also active in the Marlboro community, serving on the fire department, police department as constable, delinquent tax collector, and also as a Deputy Game Warden for Vermont Fish and Game. In 1959, he married Sally Collins Southworth, moving in 1963 to Marlboro to a home they built together. Sally passed away in 2003. He leaves two sons, Teigh R. Southworth and his wife, Chris, of Northfield, and Raif L. Southworth and his companion, Jill Stahl, of Wilmington; a brother, Robert P. Southworth of Wilmington; one granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Mr. Southworth's request, there will be no services or visiting hours.
