The slopes will open for skiers and boarders Sunday, two weeks earlier than planned. Communications Manager Tom Horrocks said the resort is opening as a result of a massive snowmaking effort by resort employees over the past couple days with freezing or near-freezing temperatures resulting in snow coverage sufficient for good skiing and riding. Horrocks said Killington Peak received 10 inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday. The ski area started making snow early Tuesday morning. No beginner terrain will be available! Have a season pass at another OPEN New England resort? We'll take $15 off the price of a daily ticket for season pass holders from any resort that is OPEN with lifts operating in New England! Present your pass and a valid ID at the K-1 ticket window to receive the discount. Adults $65

I think they are justified in charging full price if they deem that necessary. Think about it - they have to bring on staff, they're making a heck of a lot of snow that will likely melt before the season starts, etc. If anything, charging a high price is a service to season pass holders, because if it's indeed too high, it'll keep the 'knacker filled streets of kmart' uncrowded. __________ NewEnglandSkiHistory.com

The benefit is that, if it's really worth it to you, you can ski well before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, ski areas have long ago set the bar pretty low for early season and spring skiing - many people feel they are owed a discount for whatever reason. Ironic since early season skiing can cost the ski area more per skier visit than peak season, and since spring skiing is often on near 100% of the terrain with good base depths. __________ NewEnglandSkiHistory.com

That's neither drivel nor negativity unless you feel that anyone who disagrees with you is negative. Never liked that narrow diagonal trail from halfway down Lower Bunnybuster to the gondi when it had thousands of people on it. But if anyone does go, please post a report (with pix).

I think they're justified in charging what they want. Would I or will I pay $65 or whatever to ski Killington tomorrow, even if it was only 30 minutes away? No. __________ NewEnglandSkiHistory.com
