Happened to drive near Moose Mountain in Brookfield, NH, this morning and saw that cables were hanging from towers! I drove over and discovered the happy news:
1. The lodge will be open this winter, mostly to cater to snowmobile trade, with a restaurant and fuel.
2. Unassisted skiing (aka Nordic Backcountry, aka "Earn Your Turns" ) will probably be permitted this winter. Be sure to stop at the lodge and ask for permission first!
3. Lifts will open for 09-10 season, not this winter.

Wow I for one would love to see this happen. I was lucky enough to ski there one day back in the early 80's. The conditions were great and the weather perfect which is probably as responsible as anything for my fondness of the place, but I thought it was great and was heart broken when I heard it went under.
how was the access road? when we visited there in sept 2007, was not in that great a shape. Looks like they've done a lot of work!
No problem driving in today. (However, it's pretty wet right down by the maintenance building.) A well contractor was pounding a hole in the ground today.
Wow, that's pretty cool! Nice to see clearing around the towers and one of the slopes! Does anyone know who bought the property, or did the owners just try to start their own business?

Great news! Moose is/was one of my favorite lost areas. Lots of work done so far, but there is a lot more to do I am sure, including a complete rebuild of the chair.
In the 2/08 thread davew said:
King pine has some good infrastructure, but it doesn't have the vertical that Moose could have(does it?) (Looks like 1000' vert is possible with base at 700 ft, and top elevation unload @ 1700' for Moose). The old lift didn't go to the peak.
My '68-69 ski atlas has a nice aerial photo of Moose. However, the stats give no vert. or elevations. The chair is 2400'. The photo stops at the top of the lift. What's there doesn't look like 1000' vert. However, there was a nice contest thread (last year or so) on expanding Moose. 1200' vertical sticks in my mind.
This is awesome! Nelsap ski day next season? I only question the opening with the way the economy is, and their lack of a major highway, although Rt 16 is close by.

I think it'll be questionable if they try to get that Mueller double up and running again as it was.
16 is a pretty major highway, but the question is, will folks stop there or keep going. Or, will they even base their business model on window sales, or more along the lines of seaosn passes and groups.

The one thing I see as an advantage is that it would serve the people living on the east side of Winnipesaukee. It's quite a haul to the areas north of there and even to Gunstock on the west shore. I believe there has been significant growth in the lake area since Moose's closure.
I did a little searching and could only come up with this. It will be interesting to see what lifts they put in place and how much cash they are backed with. They seem to be lacking a website at this point, or my searching skills are extremely bad. That seems like it could be their largest tool and it would be a way for them to share their progress with the public.
