Kudos to Mount Snow, even though its almost nothing it still brightens my day.

Comments:

Here it is: the first snow report of the season. Snowmakers reported for duty last night and fired up the fan guns on Launch Pad just after midnight. They blew snow through daybreak and Gaitor and the Park Crew showed up around 8am, shovels in hand. It took some wheelbarrowing and strong backs, but they set up a rail, two boxes and two culvert jibs; a few dozen “in the know” lucky ducks showed up to be Mount Snow’s first skiers and riders of the season.

You missed it? No worries. We’re blowing more snow tonight and Launch Pad will be open to the public tomorrow, and then as long as the snow holds. See a Ranger and make sure you grab a lift ticket – they’re F-R-E-E, that spells free.

So let’s think about this. Today marked the last downhill race of our summer-long SoBe Energy mountain bike series. It was also the last day to play a round of golf at the Mount Snow Golf Club. Plus, skaters were hanging out in the Carinthia skate park. Historical: on October 19, 2008, a person could golf, skate, mountain bike, ski and ride, all in the same day at Mount Snow. We’re multitaskers.

After tonight’s mid 20s, it looks like we’ll have a few nights above the freezing mark. But after that, another spate of temps in the 20s is in store, so rest assured we’ll be blowing snow. We’ll keep Launch Pad open to the public as long as there’s enough snow to slide on, so keep a close eye on the snow report for updates.

It’s on.

Very nice PR move. It creates some buzz, gets the blood flowing, ect. Even if Mt. Snow broke even or only lost a few dollars,it helps set the tone for the upcoming season.Good to see some "out of the box" and creative thinking. Now I wonder who will have the first lift serviced skiing. Seem like multiple claims always come in -first in the east, first in the state, first in southern Vt. ,first in central and southern Vt.,first in the Catskills, ect. I guess you did well as long as you are "first to open", but hey - what's a little word play between fellow skiers.

Sounds like Mt. Snow will offer the first lift-serviced skiing, albeit free.

Mount Snow's "Launch Pad" is serviced by a triple chair as well as a few surface lifts. Whether or not they run that triple tomorow will determine your questions answer!

Is this what we have been reduced too? Little patch of snow on a bunny hill with no lift service? SHAME ON YOU KILLINGTON! Bring us back the old days!

Maybe I'm missing something but I still don't see or read in the snow report about a lift going.

Of course it doesn't count as first opening (with lift), but they didn't claim it did, and their website doesn't say so.

They just said they are open. Go hike if you want some turns.

My guess is an 11/8 opening for lifts, second to Sunday River in New England, and first in Vermont.

Then why is the thread title " first to open" since almost everyone is with ya on the lift thing to be "first to open". Very confusing.

Well I have to say looking at the long range weather we will have 2 days of cold and then some warm up this weekend and then cold again starting tuesday of next week. If someone wanted to try for a spooky opening I think they could do it! I think mount snow wants to have top-to-bottom main mountain and carinthia though before they open with a park on carinthia.

If anyone from mount snow is reading this if you open, I will come!

Okemo has started to make snow, per their website. Could they be hinting at a possible Saturday, November, 8th opening?? I also check Bretton Woods, they are hinting at either Saturday, November 8th or Saturday the 15th.

I think this week is going to kill any hopes of an Okemo early opening. The temps looks downright balmy through saturday. I was hoping to get lift serviced skiing by the time my concert hit on the 9th but it does not look good *sigh* and I refuse to pay $65!

I am jonesin so bad. Anyone else??

Agreed. It doesn't look good for this week: Killington forecast

Should cool off the following week, though.
