Call me a simple man, but i like simple modern colors, such as....Hunter's attempt at painting half their lifts, grey and black. Love it! Modern feel. Not a fan of their baby blue lifts. Okemo is simple, black towers, silver chairs. Stratton with their yellow and black towers. I love the Red Chair at Magic, especially since they painted the towers black. Hot!

There are some considerations, such as visibility of towers from nearby areas and on trail, color coding of lifts, heat (dark colors result in towers warming up), and galvanizing (which would look silver and resist rust).

I also remember reading somewhere that that towers on National Forest land have to be painted black or green. That is why the top notch double at Attitash was not repainted red.

Then dont go to whale back. If you pay 100 dollars you could custom paint a chair. Some are pretty wild.

This seems dubious considering Wildcat's defunct gondola.

Agreed, I could not find the post to verify this, however I pretty sure it came up when attitash was repainting the double.

Sugarbush is on National Forest land, and the new towers at Castlerock are grey.

The USFS does require ski areas to paint lifts colors that blend into the scenary but they've made exceptions. The towers of Loon's Lincoln Express are galvanized (silver). They were supposed to be green but the factory made a mistake. The USFS had to approve the accidental color change.
Not all examples of exceptions are USFS approved. I once asked a USFS employee who frequently does annual lift inspections in NH and VT why the summit terminal of Loon's gondola is allowed to remain a light tan color especially considering it is visable from numerous peaks and vistas around the WMNF. He didn't have an answer for me.

It seems that all of the old Hall doubles where "industrial machinery green". Was that their equivalent to Henry Ford's, "You can have any color you want as long as it is...." green?

There are plenty of Halls in different colors - red, for instance, seemed to be a popular choice for Hall installs back in the day.

Yes, Loon's three original Hall lifts: Little Sister, Seven Brothers and the Gondola were originally a rusty red color.

It must be a Pennsylvania thing.
Here's one of Spring Mountain's Hall's, the Hall Bear Creek just took out, and while not Hall's, Elk's Hall is the same color as all of their lifts.

I can't remember what area had what, but I always liked it when the chairs were painted two colors. I think I remember yellow/blue and yellow/red colors. I also like all yellow and all red colors as well.

Here's a blue Hall in Pennsylvania

When ordering new, the customer (ski area) usually had a choice of what color they wanted their lift to be.

Unfortunately for the lift nut that blue Hall no longer exists. It was a pretty one with the brown seat slats, classic mid station, and change of cable angle towers. I always liked the red painted Halls at Smugglers Notch. I was up there this past spring and they have now painted them green. The thing I noticed is that the green is harder to see when looking up the mountain.

Track,
I remember when Elk's chairs were a dark Blue. The cathedral chair and the west chair when it was only a double. The smaller hall chair (to the right of the lodge looking up) was a T-bar when I first skied there.

Bousquet has a center bar hall. Blue chairs with black plastic seat covers. Yellow towers. Are there many more center bar chairs left in the east?

The yellow double at Nashoba Valley stands out. It'srumored to be coming down, thought I haven't seen any confirmation.
