I haven't been able to get into SJ all day. (Actually since about noon on Tuesday.) I keep getting a page that tells me the server has expired (or something to that effect). I finally tried (and succeeded) gaining access to the site through a link on the NELSAP page.
I notice that there have not been many new posts since the last time I was able to get in. Does that mean that I am not the only one who is experiencing this difficulty, or is it just off season fallout?

I think everyone was having that problem....I also think that it's been fixed, since I got in with the usual address.

Yeah, it affected everyone ... not just you. It was a stupid outage on my part because I have my own DNS servers, yet I was continuing to pay for a DNS service which would expire randomly about once per year without warning... my own procrastination kept telling me "it'll expire later this year, so fix it tomorrow". I've since fixed the problem.

Depending on how often your ISP refreshes it's DNS server database, it could take up to 72 hours for the changes Chris made to propagate to your ISP.
Sometimes you can help things along by opening a command prompt in Windows and typing IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS That will clear the DNS cache on your computer and may make the normal site come back up faster.
