Designer Snow Crystals

I thought I heard a radio announcement that a synthetic* snow crystal had been created. I searched the Internet and did not find any current articles but I did stumble onto Snowcrystals.com. It seems to be only a matter of time until we (humans) will be able to do this similarly the way we currently make "snow". In the future, ski areas could start with the current water/air mix to create a good solid base and then layer on the Snow Crystals. At my age I doubt I will see this happen but it appears it could be something 50 - 100 years out...

    With apologies to Neil Armstrong, if the industry could somehow replicate this, it would be a giant leap for man made snow

    Who is going to pick it up and put it away for the summer?

    Where are you going to put it all for the summer?

    More like you design a certain crystal structure to optimize some property and the snowguns of the future will pump it out.   Vail (tm) brand snow.  Killington (tm) brand snow. And so on.  wow.
