Snowbound Festival Canceled for 2020
To our fans, friends and winter family,

We wanted to give all of you an update on our plans for the 2020 Snowbound Festivals (formerly known as the Boston & Denver Ski & Snowboard Expos) and we have some good news and bad news to share with you.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first.

Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 virus, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Snowbound Festivals in both Boston and Denver for 2020. At Snowbound Festival, the health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, guests, friends and staff is always our number one priority. In speaking with local and state authorities on the latest public health guidelines, we feel that cancelling the events is the best and safest decision for this season.

While we share this update with a very heavy heart, we also have some good news for you.

We are currently working on some exciting new ways to digitally connect with you as we get closer to winter so you can score some great deals, get a sneak-peak into new products, interact with your favorite brands and experience some of the amazing winter content we had planned for you – all from the comfort and safety of your home.

We know that the news of the Snowbound Festivals being cancelled this year is very disheartening, but we remain as excited as ever to come together as an online community to officially welcome winter and enjoy all of the incredible content, guests, products, experiences and fun that are the cornerstones of these events. Stay tuned for some big announcements about our online plans in the very near future.

Retail ski shops and the ski area's shops are still sitting on a lot of stuff due to earlier closings. The ski areas should be anxious to move season passes and demonstrate how
any planned Covid-19 mitigations will work.

Ski swaps I can see happening, just need to limit the number of folks inside at the same tome in the location where the swap is taking place.

Warren Miller movies will hinge upon if/when the big chain cinemas reopen, since they they do, then the venues that typically show a Warren Miller Movie can use the same guidance the chain cinemas are.

I also think that the reality is for many, the era of the local ski show was coming towards an end even before COVID-19 with the rise of the multiple online media platforms that most ski areas have these days and the comfort of their consumers using them

Last year I spoke at a brand new ski/winter sports show in Pittsfield, MA. It was jammed, with everybody visiting the vendors and at the talk too. They think 500 people came that night and it exceeded their expectations. So maybe there is a future for smaller, more customized shows.

Some early swaps are already outdoors under tents. The ones I attend regularly at Killington and West Mt could probably be moved outside without too much trouble. Starting to think this year is going to be heavily impacted, with passholders being denied access from time to time as a result of lotteries and such. If there are any swaps, I'll be looking for AT gear. Darn virus is starting to piss me off.

Yes, but if you were a ski area, would you make a multi-thousand dollar commitment for something this tenuous. I wouldn't.

You are right, and I may be making a lot of earned turns this winter! But the investment is already made in the ski areas, so I think we'll have some kind of ski season.
