Do lifts get turned during summer?

In another thread I posted a picture of Loon's South Peak "chair from nowhere". I sometimes pass it while walking my dog. When I took that pic this weekend the chairs were in a different location than they were when I was there in May. That seems weird. Do ski areas fire up idle lifts and turn them occasionally as part of routine maintenance? Or something like that?

  • Of course, not only does routine line work need to be done but the chairs need to be migrated.

Thanks. Makes sense, I just never noticed it before.
